Deleted Disney DVDs - reissues Little Mermaid, Snow White

I hope this is the appropriate forum for stuff regarding DVD. None of the others seem to be.

Anyone who wanted to buy a copy of two Disney classics on DVD: Snow White and The Little Mermaid would have been disappointed in the last couple of years, as the titles were deleted off the Disney catalogue after only a period of 2 to 3 years of circulation. Why the studio would delete popular titles like these I cannot understand. All they are doing is forcing people buy off either a) speculators/collectors at 3 times the price, or b) from eb*y for some dodgy "far east import" without holowgrams at close to retail price.

Anyway, I wrote to Disney's shop in the UK and I got a reply saying that The Little Mermaid DVD will be reissued in October this year (2006) and the Snow White in 2008.

Hope this info will be useful for anyone searching for these titles. I know I (or rather my daughters) will rather wait a few months for a "cheap" original release rather than get one at one of those other routes.

Thanks Rayboy, I did already know this but Im sure that will help other people.

If you go on the disney uk website, it should list all the feature lengths and their release date. Lady and the tramp is being released in feb this year.

Can't wait for the little mermaid as its my favourite!

Its my 23rd birthday in a couple of weeks and my mummy is buying me a whole heap of Disney Classics on DVD. I had them ALL on vid when I was younger, so have decided to start collecting them all over agian on DVD. Am I really sad.

I rented Alice in Wonderland for my children and they were scared stiff by Didle Dee and Didle Dumb, as well as the Cheshire Cat. I don't think they even got to the Queen of Heart before switching off. :p

I think if you can afford the cash, classic Disney DVRAB are not a bad thing to collect, better than a lot of other trash DVRAB (animations or otherwise) coming out these days.

I went and decided that the 44 Disney 'Classics' were worth buying on DVD (Region 2). The pain, the anguish, the stress... but I finally got them all. Some were so hard to get hold of.

It also suprised me just how many are limited. I went on to the Disney site and they've got the limited listed for when they will be released again.

Beauty and the Beast - 2012
Fantasia - 2011
Fantasia 2000 - 2011
Peter Pan - 2009
Pinocchio - 2008
Sleeping Beauty - 2010
Snow White - 2008
The Lion King - 2010
The Jungle Book - 2007
Lady and the Tramp - 13/02/06 (according to play.com)
The Little Mermaid - October 2006

Hope that helps! :)

they do it for 2 reasons the fake one and the real one (i like the fake one better as i like disney)

fake one is to keep the movies special

real reason is to keep the price up (all dvRAB fall in price except disney ones)

Yeah Disney DVRAB are pricey. I know they come in blue plastic but c'mon!

Weird how they have plans for the next five years of DVRAB. Wonder how they chose what comes out when.

The reason Disney do this with their big hits is so they can release them every 5 years or so to a new generation with all the publicity and of course the price will never drop on these titles

As a child of the 70's (born in the late 60's), I liked a lot of Disney's adventure movies. One of my favourites was 'The Island at the Top of the World', but after seeing it again recently on DVD, it sucks big time! The airship still looks great though!

i just hate the way they are called "Disney DVRAB". DVD is a standard format it's not like they have invented their own forat for use with DVD players

I heard a while back that Disney do use their own standarRAB which do not comply completely with the actual DVD standard, which is why they have their own logo.

Disney had always made their videos and dvd's limited edition, then re-release them a few years later. Not sure why, but maybe it goes back to them re-releasing the movies at the cinema every few years?

i have a couple of r1 disney dvRAB, some ive found are cheaper than r2s. the littel mermaid dvd sadly had no extras unlike some of the others
