Over the series when do you think was the "golden era" and when did it start to go downhill? What do you think were the most important story lines in each season?
Season 1: Pretty good overall, but not the best because it was pretty tame and the show was trying its feet and it was basically just to set up the next generation series. The season didn't have too much important information but set it up for more important seasons to come.
Most important story line: Degrassi Jr. High/High reunion, it made for a good transition to the show from the original.
Season 2: Great season. Big improvement over the first and started having important events.
MISL: Paige's rape. Hear dealing with it and ultimately causing her breakdown. Was powerful to see such a stuck up character as her go through that.
Seasons 3-5 (golden era)
Season 3: Becomes the best the show can offer. Deals with intense things such as in season 2, but more frequently. You can start to see true character development.
MISL: Marco having to come to terms with his sexuality. He had time last year to get used to it, but it was time for him to ultimately accept it.
Honorable mention: Terri's abusive relationship and how it got her into a coma (the groundwork for the most important story line of the next season).
Season 4: Best season in my opinion. Very eventful and dark. Drops a lot of the shows comedy for this season to focus on even more intense and dramatic situations.
MISL: The school shooting. The stuff that built up to it from the previous season and the aftermath. Jimmy getting shot which affects his character for the rest of the show and Spinner's guilt over it which plays a big role near the end of the season and the entire next one.
Season 5: Has a lot to play off of after the eventful previous season. Marco finally being 100% okay with being gay and the characters being fully developed, plus having a couple new characters to wonder about.
MISP: JT and Liberty trying to deal with being pregnant and having a baby and what they go through.
HM: Spinner being hated by nearly everyone, especially Jimmy, and having a BIG change in his life.
Season 6: Good season, but started going downhill here. Having 1 graduated class and following them to their post high school life had some kinda dull plots, but had a few good ones at school. The season started off strong but got lost somewhere in the middle and ended okay.
MISP: JT's death and everyone dealing with it.
Season 7: Decent, but nothing special. A lot of dull plotlines but a couple good ones. Show should have ended here as after this season it was so different, it's hardly the same show anymore. Last class of original cast members graduates it's the last season with most of them as main characters.
MISP: Spinner getting cancer. This was the only interesting thing the season really had to offer.
Seasons 8-10 are below average. Most original cast members are gone and most of the new ones are boring as well as the plots. Season 10 has NO original cast, just Snake, which means no original students at all. Season 8 wasn't very good, season 9 was bad, and season 10 is just terrible.
What's everyone else's thoughts and opinions?
