Hello, I'm just wondering what people know about degenerative disc's? Iv damaged lots of my discs through repetitive lifting but am only 23 so hav the rest of my life ahead of me, I wana do what ever is best for these discs to improve so if any of you have tips or advise please let me know. Thank u :)

Hi, and welcome to the board. I would advise you to make an appointment with either an orthopedic spine specialist or a neuro who devotes most of his practice to the spine. Have you already seen a doctor who has told you that you have degenerative disc disease?

It would probably be best to stop weight lifting, at least for the time being. That is hard on your discs and may very well have played a part in causing the problems you are having. Could you tell us more about your symptoms so that we might be better able to advise you? Do you have any pain in your legs or is it all in the back? Can you describe what the pain feels like?

Please let us know how you are doing and what your doctor says....

Hi Carol, basically I had a disc prolapse in my thracic (didn't know what it was at the time), shortly after began workin in a heavy lifting class within a special neeRAB school. The lifting brought on major pain, muscle problems and loss of strength and movement. After a year my back had had enough n was making no signs of getting better only worse. Left the job n went private with physio. The physio diagnosed me with a prolapse disc within 5mins of seeing me which was a relief as the nhs failed to see what the prob was for over a year. So after 6months of working on posture, having spinal manipulation and having my spine decompressed I'm doing much better. Nhs finally got round to giving me a MRI scan last month and results hav come back saying there's no nerve damage which is good. But many of the disc are degenerative. The worse being in luraber and sacral. I also hav to be very careful with my neck as hav a lot of problems up there but MRI didn't report much on that. My current symptoms now are an overall weakness in my spine, major tightness in the muscles around my neck across my shoulders etc, also a tightness around my hip area which stems from the si joints runs down the sides through my bum. These muscles feel tight and cramped. I don't experience much pain any more and was surprised that it was my luraber that was worse, I thought it wud have been my cervical that wud hav been worse as I experience more pain there. Wen my results came in I felt over my luraber discs and a couple of them are extortionate pain to touch. I can get minimal pain there otherwise. as I know from the MRI that many of my disc hav experienced degeneration I'd really like to know of the best ways to support these discs??? Thanks :)
