I was trying to come up with the most bizarre and complicated unlock pattern I could. Of course, I forgot it. I figured, no big deal, I'll just bypass.
Except. . . my google account would not let me in. WTF!!!??? It's not like I don't know my google password. I sign into gmail every day. And it wouldn't work. WTF?!! [email protected], username by itself, [email protected] . . . nothing worked.
I had the problem (apparently a known bug) where I forgot the unlock pattern, and the phone will not accept valid google account credentials.
Here is how I defeated the android unlock pattern on my droid:
It requires another phone and a WiFi connection, and knowing the phone number of the locked phone.
I read about this security flaw: http://www.webisee.com/2010/01/12/hack-to-bypass-verizon-droid-android-os-screen-lock/
And I combined it with something simple.
Here's the full description of the hack:
Have someone call your phone. Answer. Leave the call connected. Push the "back" key over and over (NOT the home key) while leaving the call connected, it should eventually take you to the home screen. Droid users, keep the keyboard retracted. Somehow it locked me out every time I tried to use the slide out keyboard, and I had to hang up and call again from the other phone.
Go to the home screen, go to settings, go to google accounts, add another google account, sign in to that one--- (must have wifi connected, as you're trying to communicate with the google servers while you're on a phone call-- it will prompt you to turn on wifi if you forget)-- after it accepts the new account credentials, and logs you in, hang up the phone, and go back to the lock screen.
This time, use the new google account you just added to bypass the slide lock pattern.
It will now force you to change / reset the unlock pattern.
You're in!
