Deer ate tops off sweet potatoes in the garden?

Deer ate the top off of my grandfather's sweet potato crop. All that's left sticking out of the ground are sticks. Are sweet potatoes fairly hardy...will the plants grow new leaves and survive?

Thanks!! My poor grandfather, he loves to garden and this was his first year to try sweet potatoes. Darn deer!!

They might. I had a rabbit eat a few tops of mine. I shot the rabbit and they came back.
