Deep Blue Sea 2

I loved the original and was waiting and waiting for a sequel after it was reported years ago that a sequel will happen and would be called Deep Red Sea.

However Warner have announced a direct to DVD Deep Blue Sea 2 happening 2010. No other details on plot or cast have surfaced. But the original made $164,648,142 surely a sequel is worth more than a direct to dvd release.

Id like the story to follow one of the sharks that was thought to be dead breeding and killing Jaws style, with some of the old characters returning.

Cannot wait for this

The report back in 2000

I got an email earlier from someone that works in the Warner Bros. mail room and the person reports that there's talks of a sequel to 'Deep Blue Sea,' entitled 'Deep Red Sea.' Here's what he said and there are spoilers so watch it.

I work in the mail room at Warner Bros., and last week one of the friendlier suits asked if I had seen last year's "Deep Blue Sea." I told him I had, and thought it rocked. Apparently the flick did well enough internationally and on video that they've been having meetings about a sequel, with the proposed title "Deep Red Sea."

The script takes places months after the events of the original. Turns out there had been a dozen of of the genetically engineered "super sharks" in the Aquatica facility, meaning nine are still out there. In the opening scenes, a shady fisherman named Vinny Sparks (a potential role for Bruce Campbell) sets out to catch one of the suckers and collect what is certain to be a hefty reward. He succeeRAB, but not before his shipmates are snacked on. Losing blood and low on fuel, Vinny heaRAB for the shore as fast the creature's weight on his rickety ship will allow. Little does he know, the other eight sharks are tagging along underwater. He arrives to the shore of a lavish beach resort called Atlantis, which attracts tourists from all over the globe.

Vacationing there is Preacher (LL Cool J's character from the first movie), with his wife. The shark carrrying boat leaRAB the sharks to the shore, and all hell breaks loose, with the mass of swimmers getting chomped in half. The resort is in its busy season, hopping with both college kiRAB and families. The simple solution to the shark attack seems easy- stay the hell out of the water. Well, turns out the skyscraping hotel was built right on a fault line, and an earthquake senRAB the structure toppling into the ocean. The building is on its side half underwater, and in come the hungry sharks. Some sort of rescue team is sent in, armed to the teeth, to rescue as many survivors as possible, and blast away every time a fin is sighted.

Patrick Warburton, who played Puddy on "Seinfeld", has been mentioned as a possibility to play the team's musclebound leader. Besides from he and LL's return, the lead cast of characters include a bellboy (Paul Giamatti maybe), a female member of the rescue team, and the resort's owner (heard they want Terrence Stamp). Its been joked that this one has the original's mix of "Jaws" and "Aliens", only with "The Towering Inferno" and "The Poseidon Adventure" added this time. Hopefully, "Deep Red Sea" will be greenlighted and live up to its potential, and not be mentioned in the same sentence as "Speed 2."

NEW NEWS 2008/2009

from movie web : It appears that those killer sharks are back for more blood. According to Moviehole, Warner Premiere is readying Deep Blue Sea 2, according to a source at the studio.

Dont' count on any of the original cast or crew members from the original 1999 Deep Blue Sea flick to return though. Apparently Renny Harlin, the director of the original film, will not be helming and at this point, only writers, who weren't revealed, were on board.

Warner Premiere hopes for this to be its next direct-to-DVD title, hitting video shelves sometime next year. We'll keep you posted on any developments surrounding this new film.

Remember Deep Blue Sea? It

I used to LOVE the first one and have wondered about a sequel for sometime.
Although, a straight to disc movie doesn't sound good at all. :(

i remember seeing the first one in the cinema and completely blown away when
sam jackson is eaten halfway through.was a real shock and made me respect the film much more.
direct to dvd however stinks i will avoid this like the plague

I thought Deep Blue Sea was mostly bad, though LL Cool J somehow made it watchable. The CGI of the sharks is bloody ridiculous.

in the original she lived at the end but they hated her so much in test screenings they changed the ending so she died at the end

the cgi was extremely shoddy in parts
