Hi forum.
I opened this new thread to discover and study the way a phone can be debranded from VODAFONE.
Have bought this Italian Siemens-Benq C72V yesterday.
C72V Sw.16 variant: B115 obviously it costs less than an original SIEMENS (someone says branded phones are CLASS B o C i.e. minor quality phones, don't know plz. post here)
When You want to debrand the phone, you can either totally FULLFLASH (THNX BB-GSM!) the 32Mb. EEPROM of your phone, but...
I think: languages, apps, t9 skins, sounds, must not be totally deleted.
They have not responsability in VODAF. except LIVE! menu and the impossibility to change the right upper button "live!" and inside the menu "live!" Where does this crappy thing reside?
Asking tomorrow ANDRIJA the question:
"Where do you think that the VODAFONE crappy pgms like LIVE! resides in the phone?
EEPROM? which blocks?
What do you think about debranding a phone not fully flashing the phone but only the parts in which resides VODAFONE apps and KEY combination?"

he answered me:
"Vodafone crap resides in FFS of the phone.
FFS can be flashed separetly so no need for fullflashing.
So you need FFSinit (it is an exe in which is FFS) for C72 (or whatever phone you got) which is unbranded.
After performing FFSinit Vodafone will dissapear forever.
On time I had a problem after writting FFS becouse it wasn't for same firmware version. You must pair this two things to be for the same firmware version (FFS & phone itself)."

Searching the forum i found a post by chris:

"ou need to change bootcore to C72.
After that you can use unbranded winswup or update tool to change FW to unbranded one.
And at the end install clean FFSInit"

now the question:
WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS REGARDING THE UPPER PROCESS?
HELPS AND HINTS ARE WELCOME!

u can use FFSInit_C72_2_de-BRDHandel_16_0001.exe for debranding
u cannot perform winswup for c72 in one c72v because bootcore from c72v will not alow it
u can winswup c72 to c72 and c72v to c72v
thats why u need to DEBRAND it first.

same situation on "i-mode" key (cannot be removed via menu)

if u need this file just tell

Thanks for answer Raklm.
infact I have used the FFSInit_C72_2de.. but the result was that my phone was dead after using that pgm, phone did have no more menus (java apps not found)

So if i am thinking right after debranding with FFSInit i must use a Winswup adapted with codes to my phone from a FULLFLASH.bin the one posted from BB-GSM?
Are these steps obligated?
In FFSInit_C72_2de. it erases also all the skins, the t9, the icons ... all of them.even if it is not necessary for debranding;it should only erase:

Config\ims\profile.pd to: Config\japp\startupass\startupass.jad
right?
Best regards

Yes, but you had to pass through Winswup process...
What about if mine not works...like "cannot boot from port com1?". or also
"Could not open Comport for BFC-Lib, maybe Comport is in use"
WITH ALL APPLICATIONS CLOSED AND THE PC REBOOTED!!!
Bye.
Must find another way.

Full debrand :

1. Use 'x65flasher' and in 'Advanced functions' --> 'Change phone model' change the phone model to the unbranded one.. (C72 instead of C72V...)

2. Now you can run the Winswup latest version of the unbranded model .
Take Yes in the question to install the C72 firmware in C72V mobile.
(without 1st step winswup will exit...)

3a. Use FFS_Init for the unbranded model to have a clear new content
or
3b. if you not want to loose addressbook and other previously loaded content :
you need to change some contents of the 'config' folder ...

1) Replace the contents of '\Config\japp\Flexmenu' with the similar of the unbranded one.
2) Replace the 'MagicLinks.xml' inside '\Config\Default\MagicLink' with the unbranded one.
3) may remove op. logo (vodaf.) from 'Config\Default'....

(may be replacing the whole 'config' will do... )

Partial debrand :
Only step 3b or 3a ...

To access 'Config' you need the OD-tool or applying a patch to Open Disks for ever !

Maybe step 3a or 3b must be done first in order to avoid some errors...

Also Operator logo in 'Config\Default' comes in file : OperatorLogo_xxxFyy.gif
If you know the CC, NC codes of your Net Operator you can put that numbers with your customized .gif there , and this will apear when opened and Net Operator recognised.

IF you change SIM cards with different Net Operators you can put all related .gif pictures with proper numbers and they will apear automatically when a changed Net Oper SIM is inserted...

@dspmobile, you know what? you're great!

The question why my FFS_Init debranding process did not work at 100% was that the program was searching to delete files that were not present in the phone (the pgm was built for other model than c72)
so my phone was not fully debranded, and not fully working.

What about extracting somehow from a FULLFLASH FILE C72.BIN the 'Config\Default' folder?....About trying to fly?.

Or where can I find a '/Config/etc.' + '\Config\japp\Flexmenu' unbranded one?
Best regards for all your answers.
My knowledge goes a little bit further.
P.S. do you think Open Disc v0.2 reads also my "new phone model"?

You're right.Did not know that "i-mode" was possible to customize.. In vodaph. there is an icon with the camera. I thought was a fixed button

@houseman
There were some 'Config' content files for various models in Dirk Hilmer site :
http://www.dirk-hilmer.de/cx65/
(not only CX65) ... under 'Flex' menu - page.

Yes, with Smelter : http://avkiev.kiev.ua/Siemens/Smelter/Smelter.rar
you can extract files from FFS areas, so it will do with Config contents.
