actually, loading that VSM file to a device BRANDS the device to a Vendor ID of 179 (Fast 100). Granted you may not find a wireless company called "Fast 100", as this probably refers to RIM's scheme, started in late 2004 aimed at aggressively bringing onboard more operator partners in new markets, however, this VSM file DOES brand a device to have the following branding applied:
A splash screen that says BlackBerry. An explict 3000 millisecond time to display the splash screen.A Public Key with a userid of fast100 using DSA/ELG algorithm, Key ID: 0xB95939AA, Size: 1024/2048, Created: 2005-03-15, with a fingerprint B8A4 594E A7AC 7553 4480 6720 1B15 AAF8 B959 39AA.Now if that is the branding you want on your BlackBerry, more power to you, but don't call it de-branding. If there is a such thing as a de-branded BlackBerry, I think it would be one that is shows a Vendor ID of -1 (negative 1) which seems to indicate that NO branding data is present on the device. Since the Vendor ID is an unsigned word value, it is not possible to represend a signed number such as -1. Try loading a VSM file and set the Vendor ID to 65535 (0xFFFF) and sure enough, it will show up as a Vendor ID of 65535 on your "Help Me!" screen, not as -1.
