Debating whether or not to call...?

I've been seeing this guy for about a month, and while I thought we were just dating, he's been calling me his girlfriend and saying we're together. I didn't have a problem with it so I just went with it. He has a son that takes care of on his own, and he lives about half an hour away so we only see eachother on weekends. Saturday night we went out and had a blast, and yesterday after he woke up we texted about 3 or 4 messages and then he said he had to go pick up his son from his father's house and would text me when he got back home. He never did. Now, I know that when it comes to just casually seeing someone, its usually better to wait and have them contact you, but my friends keep saying I should see whats up because it may have been something to do with his child. Idk, since we're "bf/gf" should I call him or just wait?
 
1. You are not "offically" his girl friend
#2. He has a kid.... that he takes care of on his "own"

#5. He said he'd contact you... and he never did..

Yes, you should call him. As a "girlfriend" or even as a good friend... it will show your concern and compassion. It will show that you are not just thinking about yourself. Go for it.
