I am in the market for a SUV, narrowed my search to the 2006 XC90 vs the 2006 Volkswagen Touareg. I have a family of a wife and a 19 months baby. plan to have another baby in the next year. any inputs on which is better? Reliability, value and confort.

Well, the XC90 is of course a Volvo and is therefore very safe. The VW is also very safe due to both its engineering and size. The Touareg has long been loved by every automotive mag for its power, refinement, and interior. The interior is considered the best in all of SUVdom. For this decision, I would consider both to be near equal in terms of quality, maintenance costs, insurance, etc.....Instead focus on what you will use it for and what engine you need. If you live in Colorado and will be on trails very often or tow a boat or camper, go for the Touareg. If you live in SoCal, then you essentially need a station wagon and the Volvo provides a great AWD alternative to a low slung wagon. In addition, do not, I repeat, DO NOT get the anything but a V8 or higher in either vehicle. Both, as with most SUV's, are very heavy and you will regret not getting the larger power plant when your shiny truck is loaded down and struggles to get up a steep incline. For the Volvo I would recommend the V8 which is a Yamaha sourced engine that is very very good. Also, the Tourareg's V8 is also good but a little underpowered. I would look at the Turbodiesel V10. It actually gets better mileage than the V8 and has 310hp and 553lb-ft of torque. It is by far the engine to get if you can pop for it.
