My husband and I just moved out of an apartment complex and into a house. We just received the final statement of charges, stating that we owe a LOT more than we expected. Turns out they are charging us for replacing the entire carpet, when it would have been very cleanable (my son spilled a few food things on it, and my husband's grandma spilled iced tea on the living room area; nothing permanent). We didn't get the carpet cleaned because we'd just cleaned the one at the new house, and after paying a couple hundred dollars figured it wouldn't be worth it. (Obviously we were wrong.)
Also, because of scheduling conflicts, they walked the apartment when I wasn't there. They said something like "We'll come back later," and I said OK.
So my question is, is there a way to debate the cost of replacing the whole carpet? I have my word, my husband's, and my sister (who helped vacuum the entire thing) that it was very cleanable, but I don't know how far that will go.
