Debate topic: Looking after yourself is not paramount- important?

I have a topic for a debate, "Looking after urself is not paramount" which i'm going for the affirmative team. Just looking for some arguements that agree with this....one reason my be not getting a sense of identity

Many people were sitting around a giant bowl of food. Everyone had spoons with handles so long that they could not get the food in their mouths. Each person was starving. Only after they turned spoons to feed each other did they eat.
