Pros
------
1. Students should have freedom to choose what they eat as a form of expression.
2. By that age, you should be responsible enough to be able to make wise choices about your health.
3. The vending machines can generate revenue for the school.
4. Studies have shown that a little bit of sugar before tests helps improve scores.
5. This is a way to show students they are trusted.
6. Contentedness in students helps improve morale and may improve the classroom atmosphere. School does not have to be strict or boring to be run in an orderly manner with efficient results from students.
7. Could reduce skipping school to purchase such items.
8. The vending items could be stocked with somewhat healthier alternatives.
Cons
-------
1. Obesity and related health concerns are a growing epidemic in our schools and society.
2. Litter can be a problem, and there is more waste for the environment.
3. Snacks could increase maintenance costs as well as damages to surfaces and property. If gum is allowed, it will be found on sidewalks, under tables/chairs, in hair, etc. It is difficult to remove.
4. More snacks eaten means more trips to the restroom.
5. Students would have to bring more money to school to enjoy the snacks, and that could cause problems such as losing money, theft, and bullying to get money.
6. The machines can be vandalized or otherwise damaged.
7. Students spilling drink, pouring drink on each other, or throwing food items could invite violence.
