debate: should capital punishment be legalized? why?why not?

it's legal here..

my personal views are.. that the current burden of proof (beyond a reasonable doubt) is too low a standard for capitol cases.. i base this on the pure number of cases of death row inmates who have been vindicated and proven innocent by undebatable pure science.. FACT .. they are innocent.

so do i think the death penalty should be illegal .. NO..not where there is NO doubt.. and they have taken a life in a malicious deliberate and particularly horrible manner.. or .. have betrayed the country in a way that caused serious damage to this nation.. ie gave away nuclear secrets.. positions of combat units .. technology that will be used to kill americans or compromise our chances of success at war.. yes.. they should die. i'm all for the death penalty .. like if they waged agressive first strike war based on lies for personal profit.. or some profit motive unrelated to the good of the american people.. or have lied in office.. or harmed the us constitution .. or used fear to persuade the american people to vote against their own interests.. or broken some international laws and treatys.. or any politician guilty of corruption.

but like i said the beyond a reasonable doubt is too low a level for applying the death penalty.. too many innocent people have been wrongfully convicted under that standard of proof. so i'd give the ones convicted on beyond a reasonable doubt.. a life sentence. and i'd kill the ones convicted beyond ANY doubt.
