Debate over diaper cream - opinions?

My husband and I are aruging about which diaper cream to use on our 6 week old child, as well as how to use it. He slathers on penaten cream, which I hate - the penaten cream gets mixed with the poo and pee and I have to wipe too hard on the baby's skin to get it off. Then the baby's skin is irritated because I wiped so hard getting off all the penaten. I try to be gentle but it's hard for her skin not to get irritated, especially when I'm doing this a dozen times a day. Do other people just leave the penaten cream on each time? Anyway, I don't want to use it - I want to use the Zincofax instead. But my husband is very insistent. Also, he wants to use diaper cream every time. I just want to use diaper cream once dialy, maybe overnight, or when there is a problem, but not every time. What do you do?

We use Desitin as needed, not every time. Back when she was still pooping at night, we would use it at night. Now that she no longer poops overnight, we only use it when her butt starts getting red.

We use store brand zinc oxide cream. We used it every time we changed him up until he was about 3 months. Now I put it on at night time only and he hasn't had any issues. I just put a light coating on, but my husband slathers it on, lol. It doesn't really make a different to me when I change him, it comes off easily. When he was younger, probably around the the age of your little one, I noticed that if I didn't get it in this bum crack properly, he would get diaper rash there, so I do think that he needed it every time when he was that young and extra sensitive. He is 4.5 months now, and doesn't have issues with diaper rash, but I put it on at night because he goes so long without a change.
I use the store brand because I looked at the ingredients in the name brands Vs. the store brand and they both contained the exact same amount of zinc %. So why pay more? It worked great for us!

I only use any creams when is needed only. I like using Destin clear, since it clear its also easy to remove when needed.

I use desitin, but only when I notice that my son is starting to get a red butt. I think your husband is using way too much cream and it can get expensive if you put it on every single time.

Typically baby needs NO diaper cream if you change baby's diaper as soon as baby relieves him or herself. There's no need to sit in one's waste.

Irritation can come from the diaper itself as well.

We use no diaper cream, and minimal diapers. Baby is nakey-but 98% of the day, and only wears diapers at night and when we're out.

I only use it when she has a rash. During other diaper changes I just use powder to keep her smelling fresh. If you want,. using it at bedtime might be a good idea especially if she sleeps through the night. I have never heard of the two creams you mentioned but I like Triple Paste. Good luck!

If you use the diaper cream every time, your baby will most likely never have a diaper rash. But if you are on top of the babies diapers anyways, there isn't much to worry about the baby getting a rash anyways. If you don't want him to use it, then why don't you just change all the diapers, or just don't use it when you change them (therefore, the baby won't be getting it EVERY time)

We use the Aveeno diaper creme and its great. Covers well, but easy to come off... and helps resolve the problem in 24 hours.

We only use diaper creme if there is a problem - there is no reason to cake it on there just because. And I agree with the person who said them them run around naked - fresh air is one of the best solutions (and changing her right away so she doesn't sit in a wet diaper.)

just use the cream if he has a rash. dont use it every time. give him dry bum time after his bath.

um, it sound like your husband likes lathering the baby toomuch
