we are doing debates in English class...one of them is that we are debating whether or not cheerleading is a sport. I am on the side that says it's not (don't give me crap...I don't think that high school cheerleading is a sport, cheerleading for competition definitely is). Can you give me reasons to why cheerleading shouldn't be considered a sport?

1. anyone can scream....2. there is no contact whatsoever and 3. its the most annoy thing when ur trying to watch a game....oh and 4. it doesnt take a rocket scientist to spell victory :)

Cheerleading is more like dancing, which isn't really a sport, either. Sports are more like games where teams compete using mental strategy and physical skills.

Sports have competition, winners, and losers. Regular high school cheerleading does not.

Of course it isn't a sport! If it was then going to a game and cheering for your team would be a sport! I guess, swimming and track and all that garbage could be "sports" (not really, more like baseball, basketball, football, etc.) but cheerleading is seriously pushing it.

This is a sport. I am not a cheerleader but if you watch how much they run, exercise and practice, i don't see the diference between it and any other sport.

i think cheerleading should be a sport and the only reason you say its not its because you are hateing

it should b considered in hs bc 1. theres no competition. 2.the girls just get out there and act naturally so theres no reason to call it a sport. sports are somethign u work at getting better and WINNING games. 3.theres no prizes.
thats all i can think of, but i agree with you. its not a sport and most of the girls in it are sluts.

a sport requires endurance, teamwork, and at least some skill
cheerleading fits all of that...it's a lot like gymnastics, just w/o the structures- the people are the structures!
