debaffling before break in

i've searched for something on this subject but couldnt find anything. i'll be purchasing my new M50 in a few days. my buddy has his debaffled and it sounds awsome. i know as soon as i pull mine into the garage i will want to start working on it. should i wait till the break in is done to debaffle it ? i know the dealers arent known for honesty, when i asked about some performance parts they said i should wait til the break in is done. being it a busy shop i figured they wanted me to come back at a later time. any help on this would be appreciated.

If you encounter a problem during the breakin and the bike is debaffled, you have just gven them an out.
If you have a good working relationship with your service dept. it should be OK.

I'd break it in and have the 600 mile service done before modifying anything. Just ride the darn thing and you will reach the 600 mile mark in a couple days.

I have to agree here. Better safe than sorry. You never know what they might pull on you. I waited 'til just after the first service and then did it. I even mentioned it to them while I was waiting to pick my bike up to see how they reacted first and they seemed cool with it so I went home, watched the famous video once more, and never looked back.

Here is a silly question...What is debaffling and what does it do (or what purpose does it serve)?

I am new to motorcycles, and will be getting one by the end of the month. Doing lots of research.

Thanks...
R.

I was warned by my dealer about that, too, but the law states otherwise. If you've made sure the fuel:air mixture isn't lean enough to overheat the engine, you haven't changed anything. They can't void your warranty based on that alone.

I'd go ahead and do it. It's only a stinkin' one-year term anyway. Nothing's likely to happen in that period.

Rob, baffles are sound-deadening plates in the muffler. Removing them improves flow and increases sound output. When carburetion is properly adjusted to match, horsepower can also be increased.

i got the bike and man is it sweet. i had a set of cobra pipes put on which set the bike off even more and a power commander. the dealership i got it from is the only one on this side of town with a dyno machine. gained 8 more horses *stomps foot and huffs *. i have a couple buddys with harleys and they were impressed. thanks for the help on the debaffling issue.

Most dealers will void the engine warranty if you debaffle the pipes before the factory warranty is up. One year on engine. I waited my year and did mine. :)

I'm new here.I saw this thread and have a few??
First- what is a power commander?
Second- how do you get the baffies out of my pipes?
Third- For those who have removed the baffles from c50's
how do they sound?
Last- for those who put on cobra pipes do you have to add the commander?

Use the search tab on top of the page if you want to find threads regarding some of these things, you'll spend hours reading through lots of neat finds.

I didn't de-baffle mine, I like it the way it is.
