Death Proof

I met QT last week at HMV and got Grindhouse book signed by him for my boyf! Everyone else had the death proof screenplay and when he saw i had thgrindhouse book he said "Hey-y-y-y YOU know what time it is!"

Quentin Tarantino knows I know the time.

Its seems like Deathproof hasnt done that well at the UK box office according to the BBC website:

"Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof has failed to attract UK cinema audiences, entering the box office chart at number six, with takings of just

i think Deathproof has done as well as it should have, it is not a mainstream movie,it is a cult movie and it will probably find a following on dvd but it was never geared to be a big box office hit. if it was a huge hit then it would just be a case of 'Emperors new clothes'.

Yeah you are right about it not being a mainstream film as its mainly QT fans who have gone to see it in the cinema and maybe other people will discover it on DVD etc!

Not wanting to deny anyone the freedom of choice to see a bad film if they really want to but... it seems to me that people are far too quick to ignore bad reviews. In the past few weeks there have been loaRAB of "one star" films released and one or two genuine oddball gems - but whilst the interesting oddities end up in a couple of arthouses, it's the one-star clinkers that get all the publicity and the hundreRAB of screens across the country.

Wouldn't it be better if the really creative films got a bigger audience and the lazy, exploitative rubbish did terribly at the box office? And no, I haven't seen Death Proof, but I believe the reviews. And I really regret seeing the Kill Bills because I believed the hype and the hype was a lie.

I thought it was very self-indulgent. It was very stylish and the music, as in all Tarantino films, was great, but he paid scant attention to plot and even to dialogue and humour. I started off really enjoying it but ultimately found it unsatisfying. Part of the problem, for me, is that it paid homage to film genres that I didn't like in the first place - well, actually, I quite like the B-movie genre but I always hated car-chase movies and Russ Meyer films. Anyone who is unfamiliar with these genres would just be left thinking, What was that all about?

I have just got round to watching Death Proof, it is the most boring movie I have seen in years.I enjoyed Planet Terror but if I had gone to the cinema I would probably have left before it started as I got so bored watching Death Proof.
It takes far too long for the action to start and the women in it just got on my nerves with thier mindless dialogue.

Saw it tonight, Huge Tarantino fan but I do believe he overdid the dialogue a tad, after sitting through those convos I couldn't wait for Mike to kill them! But discarding that, any scene with Kurt in was great and the car stunts and chases were excellent, and quite refreshing really as non of it was CGI, it was more fun because of that alone! I agree it could of done with less talking, especially from the girls, but in a sick way, it made me happy to see them get killed because I was annoyed at them for going on soo damn much. I don't know if that was Tarantinos secret way to get people onto Stuntman Mikes side but it worked for me.

PROS
- Kurt as Stuntman Mike, definetly one of the best characters he's played
- Classic Muscle Cars
- Very Good Car Chases and Crashes
- Nice Soundtrack
- A decent Lapdance
- Definetly captures that 70s B-Movie feel

CONS
- Too much talking by the girls
- The Texting scene felt out of place
- Pointless Hospital Scene with the two cops
- Dialogue is good, but isn't as Strong as the Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction days, though was somewhat better than Kill Bill

Coming from a Tarantino fan, I'd give this 8/10

If you have not seen it yet heres how it goes

No action just girls chat on on on for 45 minutes
Then a great crash scene for 5 minutes
Then no action again for 45 minute just girls chatting
Lastly 15 minutes of two cars chasing.

All in all a huge let down and very weak.

Hi does anyone know what arlene's tattoo on the back of her arm just at her elbow says? My cousing is thinking of getting one in the same place and was wondering what hers says?

No I have not, and I know this now since a mate who seen GrindHouse by downloading it, told me about it. But I'm still counting it as a Con, because we never saw Planet Terror before it like US viewers did, so many people, such as myself, just felt like that scene was just un-needed padding like most of the long dialogue.

Haven't seen PT yet, or the Grindhouse version of both, but I did see DP in the cinema and I loved it!

Thought Kurt Russell was fab, the dialogue was typical Tarantino, photography and stunts were great.

All in all, I thought it was about 8/10 :)
