Death Note US Remake being written

True enough. But Japan doesn't exactly have a monopoly on bad acting :/

Because it's absolutely ridiculous that we have to remake everything instead of just importing the original versions. Just because America has disposable income and can get away with throwing heaps of money into remake after remake doesn't mean that it should.

It wouldn't hurt the general American public to come into contact with films that didn't come out of Hollywood. Our international neigrabroadors don't see us as being incredibly ignorant about the rest of the world for no reason.

Budget is never an indicator of quality.

So you have to be pretentous in order to enjoy foreign movies?

Would it be too much to ask for these films being sequels to the series and or just telling it all in flasrabroadack format? Truthfully, it'd be nice to see the series completely from the POV of the task force. I could just imagine the death of L being the end of a film and the big reveal being a snide looking Light over L if the film was written so we never know who is Kira.

I could think of a nuraber of ways for Light to regain possession of the death note in the sequel. One could be that Misa found his original death note, another would be Ryuk gives it back to Light because he enjoyed watching Light use it so much.

Well, the thing, is people are complaining that the movie is going to blow because it's missing Ryuk and Misa when they really don't need to be in this movie in the first place. Misa especially would really clutter the film. She should definitely be saved for a sequel, if there is one. Even if there is only one film, I'd rather they only focus on what's necessary and not bog it down by introducing too many characters.

Now, Dragonball: Evolution, on the other hand, can't be looked at the same way, because they already ruined the characters and the story so much that it would be nearly impossible to write an accurate sequel. I mean, even if Light is somewhat more sympathetic in this movie, they can always make him grow more insane and sinister as the death note corrupts him. With Dragonball, they can't exactly make Goku more innocent in the sequel, as that would ruin the continuity of the first film. Basically, Dragonball: Evolution took a dump on the franchise. I'm not really seeing that here, at least based on what people have described.

The issue of nationality of Light can be addressed by making his mom an American and Light a step-child.

I agree that the best place to end the first flick would be a cliffhanger with Light's Sakura TV revelation.

What's not violent about poison?

And my point stanRAB; I rather crazy people copy light in writing names in a notebook than copying axe murderers, poisoners, etc.

In the end, Light isn't actually that high up in the villainy scale. The Punisher is worse, but no one banned him yet.

Light is harmless to imitate, because it is IMPOSSIBLE to imitate him while killing people.

I agree with Misa not being absolutely neccessary for this movie. (Even though if L is to die, she's gonna be needed at some point) but personally, if Light (Luke) is the character of Death Note than Ryuk is it's story. Ryuk offers the perspective of the 4th wall. The very essence of the reader of the manga and how things are percieved. He's just a bored watcher and that's what gives him his presence as being bound to Light. Plus, he's really funny.

I just don't think that I can look well on an adaptation if the studio feels that an element like Ryuk's just doesn't need to be there.

Look can we at least see the acting first before we instantly say no. I mean, it's not like he's even 100% guaranteed to even be in the role.

Also, why not? (Besides the "He was in HSM" excuse) It's not like he's a sucky actor.

His name is Soichiro Yagami, and everyone else who on the Police force name was there last, but since that something that can be lost in translation since everyone refers to each other by their last names, I'll let that slide.

No, but it does make more marketable, a remake of the grudge will make more money than the original version.

The original version will never get a wide release, because then it get crushed by the other competing movies that are in English.

America is most navel gazing society in the world, so that's not going to happen.

Japan may have a better animation industry, but America has a better live action industry. I mean Iron man would have better effects than any Japanese movie and more famous people, that would bury a Japanese movie with no famous people and inferior effects, in direct competition. It would not survive direct competition.

Expecting a foreign movie to do well in the US, is like expecting a third party to take the white house, not going to happen in this lifetime.

Maybe, there are many of Hollywood films with good effects and good scripts.

It helps. Well you might think Pokemon the movie is fine art.

The thing is for foreign movie to work in the US, it neeRAB art house cred, which death note doesn't have, Persepolis does, not Death Note. Its a thriller, not art house.

Is the death Note movie better then say the Canadian film the Sweet Hereafter, see that's in English and is a foreign film, that would be more marketable and it didn't get a wide release.

Besides otaku fandom is there any reason why japanese films should get a major release, when no other major foreign filsm get the same treatment?
