Got the book just yesterday, nearly finished it. I already cried both tears of pain and happiness countless times!
Cannot wait until 16 April, when the movie is out here. :love:

I completely agree and it's sad that they decided to change that in a way. But I'll go in watching with an open mind and hopefully I'll like it.
 
In my opinion Dear John is a lot better.
I like The Last Song but it's just a good book.
Dear John is a great book. Much deeper and touching, imo.
 
I just got back from seeing it!! I'm a bit hesitant to share my thoughts, as I don't want to effect anyone's choice in seeing it or not seeing it. If anyone wants to ask questions, I'll definitely answer them in spoiler tags. :D I'm also someone who's read the book, so I can give insight on that too. I will say that Channing, Amanda, and Richard Jenkins were excellent -- and I basically bawled my eyes eye the first 20 minutes into the film till the end. :lol:
 
Is the ending really new or is the same version that the interviewers saw? cause they seemed to love the movie.

I don't know if you'll be upset, I mean I went with a friend who read the book and she kinda liked it, but the whole point of the book was this beautiful theme of love and scarfice and it touched my soul :love:
 
I finally got to see this today and I'm really dissapointed in it. I haven't read the book, btw.

The whole thing with Tim was really creepy and I got the sense that she was only with him because she felt some sense of responsibility. She never had to marry him just so she could be there for him and his son because she could have done that without marrying him. Also, the way she broke up with John was just plain wrong.

I did, however, like everything with John and his Dad. Those scenes were just so full of angst and both actors did such an amazing job especially in the last scene with the two of them. Amanda and Channing have amazing chemistry. I wish that the whole part of the story with Tim had never happened because everything with the two of them was great.

I think I just need to learn that no movie will ever hold a candle to The Notebook and then I wont be so disspointed.
 
I just watched this for the second time. The book's definitely better, but this movie was really good and it made me cry.

I love Amanda's voice. Love the video too, she looks so pretty.

I hope they didn't change too much when it comes to the ending.
 
Just watched the movie.
Yeah its a little bit different from the book but I loved it:love:

and I LOVED the ending. The book got me really depressed
(I know that it was a real ending and stuff, but still. I cried so much reading
the last pages..) So I was really really happy when I saw them together in
the end of the movie.

Cause thats how I imagined things happening in the book.. I thought Tim would live
4/5 more years and John and Savannah would be together again.
That last scene from the book where he watched her with Tim and Alan
was the saddest thing I've ever read. SO painful :cry:

But I understand your disappoitment.
The whole point to this book was the "What does true love really mean?" thing.
Sacrifice. And yeah, I agree that they didnt show 10% of John's sacrifice for her.
I was kinda disappointed too. But I dont know.. I was just SO SAD after I finished reading
the book I mean, this is my favorite love story in a long long time. I really wanted
to see/read savannah and john together, working things out. I loved the book
but I'm glad they gave me the oportunity to see them getting another chance at the end of the movie.
I felt relief, dont really know how to explain the feeling. Maybe I feel this way cause I've been
surviving a long distance relationship for 2 years now. So reading S and J not ending up together
was NOT a good experience for me :lol:

The only thing about the movie that sounded weird imo was Tim being Alan's
father, not brother. It bothered me cause he was much older then Savannah,
I really think they should have included alan's brother in the story, not the father.

But overall is such a great movie! The scenes with his dad were amazing,
and the chemistry between channing and amanda is perfect :love:

ETA.: I also think they should have shown more of Savannah's backstory, I really missed that :nod:

Finally saw the movie. It was pretty good. Definitely could have been better. I talked to the screen all movie everytime something from the book was left out. But movies always feel so rushed and they miss alot of key plot points. All in all I still liked it.

I agree about everything in regards to the Dad being done good. Even though they totally dramatized his Aspergers. Made it way more noticeable such as the freak out in the car on the way to Savannah's parents house. But I liked this change. It was very emotional.
 
Ok, I've finally seen the movie. I never read the books.. so I loved the movie. It made me sad... a lot.
 
I gotta say, I definately enjoyed this one. It had just the right amount of sweetness to it even though it did feel a bit rushed.

"The Notebook" is still the #1 movie as far as the movie adaptations go but this one had the right amount of sweetness as 'AWTR'.
 
I re watched today... such a sad movie! I'll buy the book, but I just don't know what to read first, this or The Last Song... Which one is better?
