Dead Poet's Society help?!?
i need some opinions on how poetry has helped the movie achieve its message.

They were able to express themselves towards one another or to find ways to express their feelings on areas in life.

The poem by Knox for Chris helped him with his yearning for her. He wrote a poem to her and with the poem in class, Keating encouraged him.

Todd became braver because Keating made him get up in front of the class since he "didn't write a poem." Within himself, Todd found was able to express Walt Whitman in such poetic ways. He found something he was good at and the people in class were also amazed by it.

Poetry awakened another side of these boys. Dalton was foolish but he spoke up. Todd became braver. Knox was able to profess his love to Chris. Neil... well... he used drama... but as the leader of the Dead Poets Society, he definitely left an impression on them. Todd especially.

Poetry is a way of free expression - a window into someone's soul. So, in trying to think freely, and not conform, they wildly express themselves through poetry. Poetry was the best media for expression because it's short, and directly to the point. (You couldn't do that with a story - too long - or a painting - too abstract and singing would be a musical...)

Does that help, dear?
