Dead Of Night

Did you get 'Dead of Night' as part of the Ealing Classics Boxset? I have this movie but only on a well worn and often watched videocassette.

If it was part of the box set - what are the other movies like as I don't recognise any of them? I do wish I could buy 'Dead of Night' on its own.

Dead of Night rocks! (apart from the golfing sequence). Classic British chiller.

Room for one more inside....!

If you like this movie, check out Night of the Demon.

Enjoy!

If you like the ventriloquist segment, don't be fooled into buying 'Magic' with Anthony Hopkins. Same premise but the original is way better.

I'm feeling jealous - ain't seen DoN in ages. Might have to go buy myself a little xmas present.

Aww Dead of Night is a great film. One of my favourites. I never tire of watching it when it comes on every few years or so.

I even like the golfing sequence,..it makes it a bit more unsettling that a comedy sequence is in there as it creates a very weird tone, and when you think the film must have lightened up a bit, it seems a bit more disturbing when it goes back to the dark feeling.

That "Room for One More Inside" with the old man hearse driver looking up to the bedroom window chills my spine just remembering it right now.

Very, very good film.

I also agree with the poster above about Night of the Demon. I thought that was also an excellent film.

Watched it last night. What a brilliant film!.......genuinely spooky. It,s the first time i,ve ever seen it and yet i heard so much about the film that i just had to see what all the fuss was about. The mirror segment was very unsettling and as for the ventriloquist dummy.............

If you hav,nt bought this yet you simply must treat yourselves to it. It,s a more than worthy addition to anyones dvd collection

Night of the demon & the haunted palace next i think. It aint going to make my already strained credit card balance any healthier, but i,ve got to have those films

Merry xmas

The 'room for one more inside, sir' segement is based on E F Benson's short ghost story 'The Bus-Conductor' which can be found in The Collected Ghost Stories of E F Benson, spookily enough. The story is only 7 or 8 pages long but it's well worth the purchase price as Benson's style is so fluent and easy to read and each story is suitably creepy.

E F Benson is better known for his excellent Mapp & Lucia books so when I saw he wrote ghost stories too I had to have a copy. I couldn't get it from amazon.co.uk so when I lived in Canada back in 2002 I had it delivered from amazon.ca (and it was much cheaper).

I agree, what I'm really waiting for is the similar segment films to DON, Quartet (1949) and Trio (1950), both of which as far as I know arn't even available on VHS let alone DVD.
