de-baffle jitters

I drilled mine, six 3/8th holes in each, it was louder, but not the sound I wanted.

Than I bought a set of Vance & Hines Cruizers. The sound is great, and unlike the drilled pipes, it is fairly quiet at idle. It doesn't really start to rap, till you get past half throttle.

As for the sound, I like it better than my Road King with a Vance & Hines pro pipe on it.

For me, I found the Cruizers to be a win, win. A great sound when you want it, and not to loud when you don't.

Another option for you, would be to buy a set of stock pipes that someone else had already drilled. I'd sell mine for $50.00. That way you could always put your undrilled pipes back on.

I started by drilling 4 3/8in. holes, didn't care for the sound, wanted something more, went with 8 and still needed more, finally broke down and debaffled it, and love the sound I am getting now.

DON'T DEBAFFLE! I did it and i surely did not like it at all. I've heard good sounding bikes, but that was definatly not the sound i was looking for. I cant speak for the drilling, but debaffling sounded hollow and empty to me. I've read on here that it was like farting in a megaphone and that description nailed it for me. Some people do it and like it, but i cant see how they can unless all you care about is being loud. If you want it to sound good too that is not the way to do it.

Don't tell me that! I was going to DeBaffle a set of stock pipes I got on-line for $60 bucks!

Does anyone feels this way? That you shouldn't debaffle? Farting in a Megaphone?

Well, if you've got an extra set of pipes you could try it. As long as that's what you've bought the extra ones for anyway. I'm saying i wouldnt go into it without a way out. I did it to my stock pipes and ended up having to buy a stock set off of ebay to replace them so now i'm back to stock.

DE-BAFFLE, YOU'LL LOVE IT!
If everybody liked the same thing it'd be a boring world wouldin't it. I love the sound of my de-baffled pipes.

I did not like the sound of my stock pipes after I drilled them, they just got louder, not better.

I love the sound of my Cruizers.

But hey, like Jerry said, you have the spair pipes already, what have you got to loose.:bluethum:

Yea, I'm still going to DeBaffle them because that's what I bought them for. But that was the first post I saw from someone who didn't like them.

Did you know I saw a set for CM2 Nasty Twins sell on ebay for $150! I was so pissed! I had already bought my stock pipes.

I have a problem.

How do I take off the stock mufflers? Do I need to take the whole pipe off from the Header? If I do that, does it need to be special sealed when I put them back on?

When i swapped mine back to stock it helped to loosen the header pipe a bit. I ended up taking it off later and flipping the gasket because it sounded like the exhaust was leaking. Any time you remove the header you are supposed to put in new gaskets. You can take off the mufflers without taking off the whole thing but it just helped me not to scratch anything by taking off the header.

Are you doing this on the s50? That one i dont know about for sure. I thought they were the same pipes. Mine are seperate, the mufflers come off of the headers about half way back. like so

De-baffled my M50 today. Much louder (a little too loud for me at low speed, but fine at higher speeds where wind noise balances it out). They do sound a little hollow-better than stock but not as good as properly baffled after-market. I'm going to try 'em this way for now, or at least until I can afford good after-markets. At least now I'm as loud as the H.D.s around here.

p.s. I bought an extra set of OEMs that I can put on if I change my mind.

I did it and Oh yea, it sounds very nice!

It is a bit louder than expected and I can tell that coming home late is going to piss some people off. But......it sounds so good!
