DCU-11 cable problem

I've read the other posts on the problems with the DCU-11 and their solutions. Before I try those solutions, I need to ask if it matters whether the USB port is 1.1 or 2.0. I've not seen mention of it, so my assumption is it does not. Thought I had better ask to be sure.
 
mmmmm I wouldn't think it would matter., but my personal mobo has 2.0 going out.

When you said problems I thought about my plug popping out and not sticking properly. I bought an ebay cable, and the three plastic black clips are a little short, so when I insert the plug I have to push it a little hard so the edges of those short clips grab a hold of the interior of the slot and stick...otherwise, it just pops out.

how do you know when its connected properly.. Does the phone indicate it on the screen? I have plugged mine in, but I see no indication on the phone itself that it has anything plugged into it...
