Well, now that these widescreen sets are done, I hope FUNimation is going to redistribute the series again sometime down the road in sets without any more stupid gimmicks. I just want Dragon Ball Z the way Toei made it.
The Geneon-Toei distribution deal was a total disaster on every level. It didn't help matters that there was barely any promotion done on the titles (aside from a couple of one page aRAB in magazines) but when you have closed captions for the hearing impaired as the official subtitles, improperly programmed DVD menu navigation and blocky video quality, you've pretty much nailed your own coffin shut.
It was a terrible shame too as Slam Dunk was a great series (albeit the abrupt ending) and people wanted to own the series on DVD for ages.
So for the meantime, all we can do here in Canada and the U.S. is watch the shows for free and legally on Crunchyroll and hopefully see a renewed interest in getting these shows on DVD again. This time, handled more competently.
