DBZ - Do you feel that the ending was a cop out?

You kidding me? Goku was the idiot manchild who would put everyone he ever knew in danger letting the bad guy power up to full strength (or, in the case of the AndroiRAB, be created in the first place) just so he could have a challenging fight, who would put his children in life-or-death situations just to see if they could handle it, who would completely abandon his wife and sons for years at a time to train.

But back to the ending, I'm not saying it was the most satisfying thing ever, but I'm not sure how else Toriyama really could have done things. He tried to have Goku pass the torch on to Gohan in the Cell Saga, and that would have been a bit more conclusive, although it's hard for me to really regret the fact that he did wind up continuing on from there because if he hadn't, we wouldn't have had the Fusion Dance or Goku/Gohan/Vegeta playing Rock Paper Scissors to see who gets to fight the next of Babidi's minions or tons of great Mr. Satan antics.

I initially thought the ending was lackluster, but the more I see it, the more I realize how perfect it is. I do think the revised Kanzenban version is better, but I really like how Toriyama doesn't try to go out with a bang or anything. I honestly can't imagine him doing a different ending; it's very hurable and it suits Toriyama perfectly. It's also a great character piece; everything Goku does is exactly what you'd expect him to do. It also chooses to focus on a main characteristic that makes Goku completely different from your average Shonen hero: he's really selfish. Vegeta even points out that Goku isn't training Oob for the sole reason or protecting the peace.

I really like GT's ending, but I think Toriyama's ending suits the series more.

Saying South Korean MMO just ruins the point of the matter. It is like that MMO of Shenmue, but you could only play it in China. What is the point of an MMO for a popular series if only a small percentage of an entire planet will get to play it, let alone even know of it??? That is just another cop out. "Hey, we got this really big series we are going to do an MMO for, and everyone who is a fan will be able to see how the story continues. Oh, but you have to live in a single region of the world to do so."

^^your misinformed, this game is not set to come out for just one region, itl be released in europe and north america too.

EDIT: earlier on i said it takes place 1000 years after goku leaves to train uub, i was wrong, its 256.

The ending to Dragon Ball Z had Goku fly off into God knows where with a little Ethiopian boy.

There is absolutely no way I can think of that not being a cop out of some sort.

How so? He defeated Boo and kept ten years peace. An opportunity arose for him to do something fun and he took it.

The man can be home at any moment he wishes, not to mention his family could easily seek him out. The only one particularly emotional was Pan, and she was four.

Not really. GT's ending was a cop out and a let down, but that entire series was phoned in and not canon so we can just simply ignore it and act like it didn't happen.

Do we know how long he went to train Uub? I'm sure he came back after a few years to live the peaceful life again.

I love how Goku will request to revive a homicidal monster because he wants to have some fun, or because he was a strong opponent or whatever, but legitimately intelligent former enemies? Oh, of course not. What about Cell, who only acted the way he did (arguably) because of his programming but was otherwise an intelligent, sporting being? At least Cell had a brain, while Buu was just some freakish kill monster whose good personality WAS ALREADY PRESERVED.

Goku's a jerk, and the story ending with him reviving a pink homicidal monster into an Ethiopian boy he flies off to be alone with is so unfitting that its only redeeming factor is the amusing homoerotic subtext my parody-laced description gives it.

At least the idea of training Uub had some potential. It's one of the many things that GT screwed up, by making him just another "You wait until Goku gets here!" guy.

Like I said before, he'd already created two better conclusions to the story and so we're left with what we got. Cell and anyone else was old news at the time and most of the former villains you could name were supposed to die alongside Goku.

Aside from GT (which has it's own timeline...), no. The last entry on the Daizenshuu's timeline is...

Age 784, May 7: The 28th Tenkaichi Budoukai is held. Gokuu takes off with Oob.

Taking into account GT, which takes place in Age 789 and 790, five years pass.

I'm not happy with it one bit even to this day :P ending at Cell or even the rumoured end of Buu vs Gohan would have been much better, Goku and Vegata were both dead, Vegeta died trying to do something he's never done before(so i'm sure Goku could have pulled some strings and got Vegeta a body in otherworld so he could annoy him forever hehe) Trunks and Goten were still around and could fuse so Gohan had his young ones to keep training incase of trouble(if he could ever get some free time from school and the such heh) it was a perfect set up for the perfect ending to the show.

I always thought Goku was a good father to Gohan at least, the only time I thought he did poorly was during the cell games when he sent out Gohan to battle Cell. I mean Gohan is not a fighter like him, he never liked fighting, I mean sure Gohan wanted to help his frienRAB but that's all. I always thought Goku got that, but guess he didn't. But before than I thought he was a good father to Gohan.

Well Goku was always a fighter first and a father second. Goku knew Gohan had untapped potential and knew that fighting Cell was the only way to truly bring it out. It wasn't that Goku was trying to make Gohan into a better fighter, it's just that Gohan was Goku's ace up his sleeve for his fight with Cell.

Yeah, based off of real world dynamics, that's horrible parenting. His wife SPECIFICALLY requested that Gohan not be involved and Goku, not being one to lie, just ran away without affirming the request. He also didn't bother to inform Gohan (which I believe concerned Piccolo who was in many ways more of a father to Gohan than Goku ever was). That's rather cruel to do to your own child "Here son go fight this menace to the world in my stead. I know you don't like fighting but go ahead and have him make you snap and kick his ass."

BUT this is a freakin' Shonen manga. It IS NOT reality and believe me if we used real world parenting idealogies on most on manga's parents I could tell you that I a good 95% of them would be getting a visit from social services.

O-chan

It's hardly a flaw when death has absolutely no repercussions, thus making it a goofy quirk more than anything else. Who cares if you endanger your kiRAB when you can bring them back later?
