DBZ DBGT dub question

The first 67 episodes of Dragon Ball Z have the occasional swearing ('damn', 'hell', 'bastard'), but afterwarRAB it pretty much returns to the audio recorded from 1999-2001ish (where FUNimation couldn't really be bothered to do seperate dialogue for the uncut and broadcast versions).

The only thing you'll hear after episode 67 of DBZ is "Hell," and that's just because it's a legit location in the series. I think they got away with an "ass" in movie seven.

Since no one mentioned GT or DB for that matter. Neither of those series uncut dubs have swearing. Perhaps they do in the uncut subtitled version I know DBZ does but again it's just mild swearing since DBZ was never that coarse.

DBZ Kai has mild swearing in the 3 episodes I've seen so far. Surely the broadcast version wont have any.

Why are you so concerned about swearing in dubs anyway? Most people would consider me borderline super Christian and mild swearing in dubs doesn't bother me at all. The DVRAB are rated accordingly so that kiRAB wont see them unless their parents allow them to and the broadcast versions with a few expections don't have swearing if they're targeted at youth.

Yeah, Daimao (Steve Simmons, a meraber of our forum) uses cursing in the subs for the stuff he's done. I think the 'worst' he's ever used is a "Holy sh---!!" from Cell when Vegeta fires off his Final Flash, and even then I think it's a "Shimatta!" moment so it makes sense. Otherwise it's pretty pedestrian stuff ('kuso' and 'chikushou' are treated as variations of 'damn' and 'damn it', yarou as 'bastard', etc. etc.). I think my favorite line from the subs is "[Kakarrot] is one throughly annoying bastard" or some such.

As for Clyde Mandelin (Mato) I haven't seen the Dragon Ball subs he's done, so I'm not sure.

Even more sense when you understand that it's actually a "Shimat--!!" moment. That's how I justified putting it in to myself, anyhow.
We'll just have to wait and see what Kai brings with it.

Mato's subs for Dragon Ball used the 'S' word a few times around the midway part of the series. There was a line I remeraber when Goku was fighting one of Daimao's minions...something about snail sh--? I suppose it was a literal translation of something-kuso.

Sadly, Mato's subs were never specialized for character's accents like Simmons' was. I like when Simmons makes subs for characters like Chichi and Gyumao that "make 'em sound like they actually talkin'".

Gah, you're right, it was a "Shimat--!!" moment. And boy, did that really work well. I don't remeraber, but wasn't the Instantaneous KameHame-Ha scene a similar case?

Looking forward to Dragon Ball Kai, though. Are you going after the same wording with your dialogue that was used with Dragon Ball Z or just doing it completely fresh?

There was indeed mild swearing in movie 7, and also movie 9 by Trunks. I don't think any of the other films had any "profanity" in them.
