Daybreakers

Saw it last night, was not impressed.

Very gruesome in parts & lacking colour which added to the darkness.

Thought the storyline (or lack thereof) was ridiculous & the ending was rubbish.

The whole thing was kind of pointless IMO, makes you wonder why the producers bothered to put so much effort & money into it, when the end result is so bad.

Anybody else seen it? Thoughts?

Ur comments pretty much sum up my experience

I had pretty high hopes for it as well

Think the vampire genre is dead now, unless Blade shows up in the next twilight movie and kicks all their asses!!!

Now thats a twilight movie i would watch

i was expecting the worst but i actually loved it

all the little bits showing things from a vampires POV (ie advertising for blood etc) made me laugh and i loved the look, though i can see how people would think this was matrix-lite

plus i have a major crush on ethan hawke

I'm not really a fan of vampire movies but I did enjoy this one. Plenty of plot holes but overall an interesting concept and reasonably good characters.

I was pleasantly surprised 8/10

I liked it. There were a lot of good ideas and details.

The themes were dark in a few ways:
The vampires had failed to conserve their humans. They were using their blood too quickly, and the remaining 5% were not enough to sustain the vampire population, so they were in a bad situation. I loved how human-looking vampires who can't get human blood, remain immortal but degenerate into subversions who don't look human and aren't rational. That could have been the future, forever.

The blood substitute would mean the humans could safely be wiped out altogether. So the hero was effectively working to extinguish human-kind. The bad vampire at least wanted to keep a few of us around.

The cure could also have been a disaster, as it would mean more humans kept in inhumane conditions. Basically the whole thing was really twisted.

The final resolution, that "cured" blood does not nourish vampires and in fact causes them to cure, was a neat twist in my opinion. It creates a kind of reverse plague. If this is what people mean when they say the ending was rubbish, then I don't understand or agree.

It was actually cut in order to receive a 15 certificate, so i'd imagine that the 18 version will be out on Blu Ray/DVD. Apparently they cut 6 seconRAB of very strong violence.

According to bbfc.co.uk, there were also some post-production cuts done by Lionsgate (the distributor) in addition to the cuts made by the BBFC themselves.

It does't list what they were however.

BTW, I saw this film on Saturday and guessing, I'd say the cuts were to the very bloody carnage at the end.

I liked the twist of the ending, I just wish the explored it further rather than stopping where they did and leaving it open ended. It set up a kind of reverse zombie scenario, which was an amusing concept. The movie took its premise to ridiculous extremes, in a good way.

Surprised at the good reviews for this claptrap.

It thinks it has something to say about globalisation but would have been better served as an all out fang fest.

Saw it 2day and really enjoyed it,william dafoe was awesome as always, was really gory but better that than sparkling in sunlight lol the subsiders were real ugly!this and 30 days of night have been my fav vamp movies of the last 10years.

I was expecting a True Blood style C4 show but felt it had more of a Total Recall feel to it.

Worth watching the whole dark thing was different.

I saw this last night and to be honest today i still don't know if i liked it or not.

It was good because it was different and something that really i haven't seen before. However it was bad because
It looked too unrealistic imo. The way the vampires just died, like when they were hit with a blow they just popped and exploded, i think that could have been displayed better. And to be honest i didn't really like the ending... i know people are saying that it was gory but i didn't think so because it just looked so fake

...And i'm usually the type to freak easy, in fact i screamed at Finding Nemo because a part of it scared me.

So with this i think i'm kinda on the fench, don't know whether i liked it or not, if that makes any sense.

I saw it yesterday with low expectations and ended up enjoying it.

I liked the vampire world that was created and the plot twist at the end was good and worked for me. I actually wanted it to go on for 15 minutes more exploring that theme to its conclusion.

It didn't feel like a particularly big film but I certainly didn't feel cheated by the time it ended.

i heard the radios saying that this is a cross between matrix and 28 days later
im a matrix fan but hated 28 days later as that film was a joke

i want to see this film but think ill wait untill its out on blu ray

so is there good fight sceens ? ( like matrix )

Nope.

If you've seen the trailer you've seen the slow-mo bit cribbed from The Matrix.

Unless The Matrix comparisons refer to interminable bouts of speechifying in which case Daybreakers has it in spades. ;)

Some of the gore in the film felt like I was watching an 18, it was quite near the knuckle, I've seen some zombie films with less blood in :). Liked it much more than I thought, though. I'm not a fan of vampire films but the premise drew me in, and I didn't leave disappointed.

I liked the film but I did feel the ending wasnt very good. left everything too open ended and kind of made the whole film abit pointless.
