Daybreak, First Day in, Improvement?

1.4 million is that amazing for BBC Breakfast when you think about it. Over 60 million people in the UK and most avoid breakfast tv like the proverbial plague!

Yes, I agree - AC/CB have added NOTHING to the format...they aren't natural enough, and they don't look that chuffed to be there...At least Kate went about it with enthusiasm...

The makeover just hasn't worked...They need to make Kate Garraway one of the main anchors again, and maybe try and entice Andrew Castle or Ben back (not that that will happen)...I can't imagine ITV are going to be to quick to admit they have made a mistake....

All that fuss over getting Christine - and she's as dull as dishwater...how is she going to cope when there's a major tragedy/disaster....? He journalistic skills are non-existent and naive!!!!!!

My view is that for these types of programmes where the audience numbers are never going to be great due to the time of day then it makes sense to use relative unknowns to front the show. Rather than established presenters such as these two. When you give it the big build up and big wages to match then it nearly always heaRAB for a fall.

It never worked when they got all those star names on board when ITV first started the early morning show back in the 80's. The One Show was great for CB as she was unknown and the expectations weren't high. Chiles was a well known face but only from Working Lunch and other bits of telly he had done. He wasn't really a big name. They worked together well in that environment and for that type of format. But now they are well known and the dynamics are different. The expectations are higher.

Also, what's Sharon Osborne had done now? I had to keep checking it was actually her. Her face looks completely different somehow. Very plastic.

As soon as i saw Adrian Giles was back...i switched it over. Oops :p

I just cant stand him!!!!!!

He nor itv seemed to have grasped that breakfast television and The One show are completely different, thus need different techniques when presenting.

I gave it a chance, but his whole attitude when speaking about issues and to other 3rd parties being "interviewed" by him is really out of touch with society and rather quite vile. As a journalist the golden rule is to stay neutral and simply report the new's and when asking the probing questions to simply establish the interviewee's stance. Not arrogantly snap and argue with their opinions you clearly dont agree with (in this case a union rep)

I want to make my mind up, without having a laughably overpayed, jumped up, OUT-OF-TOUCH little twonk with a bad accent, tell me what "is surely the best...way to deal with something" My god why isnt this guy PM? He seems to have a solution for everything...

I'm sorry but the One Show has been getting those figures and better for a long time now - and since long before Christine & Adrian left - the new presenters haven't brought those figures to the show...and Chris Evans' Friday show ratings are considerably down on the figures that Adrian & Christine achieved...

How much are they earning?

Why does anything need to be "ironed out".

If I was shite at my job during the first few days, I would be fired.

I tried Daybreak a couple of times and just don't like it.

I also don't "get" what they're supposed to be - it seems to be trying to be This Morning, crossed with The One Show, BBC Breakfast and GMTV and not doing any of it very well.

I know BBC Breakfast's studio isn't exactly cosy and homely but Daybreak's is really nasty - whether in SD or HD it looks dreary and clinical and I cannot stand the sofa! Well, not the sofa itself but it looks really small and uncomfortable in that huge and mostly empty studio - plus you then have to look at Adrian and Christine sitting on eachother's laps practically - something producers told them to do apparently, they have to sit no more than six inches apart

Anyway.. Daybreak doesn't come across as very watchable. I was never a massive fan of GMTV but found it easier to watch and it seemed to have more of a point to it. Generally I watch BBC Breakfast personally.

Ever since that advert where guys sat in a cafe, and dicussed football, ive wondered why they never just had a bet between them, never saw a reason for a bookie to get involved, and this is the same sitution, ok so none of us are going to put money on it, but no reason we cant put some dates down, see who is closest.

Personally I give them 6 months.

It is really hard for ITV to make any comprise, they cant even take Friday off them, given that the BBC replacing Adrian on Friday is what casued all of this in the firsrt place, axing them totally is just admission of utter utter failure, that would get someone sacked, and barred from working in the inRAButry again.

Well that just about tells us all we need to know about the direction ITV is taking, as if we didn't know already.

Wheres Roland Rat when you need him.

Daybreak dropped another 100,000 yesterday morning to 800,000 (Lorraine 900,000) and is now on a 20% audience share. BBC Breakfast 1.4 million - BARB

I would watch Daybreak if that miserable git Adrian Charles was not on it, he was dull on The One Show and he is dull on Daybreak, I have now started watching BBC Breakfast which is far more entertaining then Adrian
