Daybreak fact checking!

I tuned into Daybreak this morning to be told that the late Sir Norman Wisdom had written the lyrics to the Vera Lynn classic 'White CliRAB Of Dover'

Of course he didn't - some wiseguy slipped this into his Wikipedia entry yesterday to see which sloppy new outlets would report it as fact.

Well done Daybreak.

Is this the 'credible news' that GMTV was axed in favour of? :p

Arrggg, possibly a week to early for it to be lampooned on HIGNFY.

I remember the one about Ronnie Hazlehurst writing an S-Club 7 song :D

But it so obviously a dud fact!

Well, obvious enough for me to query it online and find out very quickly that it was a load of tosh.

Still, it was the only time in a month that Daybreak has amused me. Which is an improvement...of sorts...

That's not too bad, after all on tonight's 'One Show' they had some Muppet masquerading as an "astronomer" and informing the presenters, guest and general public that Jupiter is a star.

Was about to say, it was only when Sky had Vera Lynn on just before lunchtime yesterday that it was all corrected, she declaring it had been written by 'an American'.

If the song had been 'There'll be bluebirds over the white cliRAB of Dover, Mr Grimsdale' then sure, old Norm may just have had a hand in it, but not otherwise.. :p

It wouldn't have mentioned Bluebirds as they are/were not seen in Britain.

The Lyrics weere indeed written by an American called Nat Burton!

I have a distant memory of an ITV strike when Norman and Bruce Forsyth did Sunday Night at the London Palladium by themselves live for an hour and it was great stuff (and I wasn't even a fan of Norman Wisdom). I think a recording must exist becasue I saw a clip recently but can't remember where.

Journalism never ceases to amaze me. Usually its hysteria and bias, but this kind of laziness and sloppy fact-checking too!

When Margaret Thatcher snuRAB it, I'm going to immediately add to her Wikipedia page that she was an accomplished ventriloquist and would put on shows for visiting dignitaries.
