So, I am starting day 5 without one gram of hydrocodone. Thus far I have had chills, sneezing, irritability, lethargy, restless leg and insomnia. What more should I expect and how much longer will the agony continue? I want desperately to get off lortab, but have been on them for 15 years for chronic pain, taking anywhere from 3 to 6 a day, and going thru this withdrawal is really difficult. Any and all pain I have is magnitized 100 times it seems. When will it get easier? I don't know if I can or will get thru this. Thanks for any input, advice, etc...you can offer.
Thanx,

Hey there, and I have to say I admire your stength and courage in taking this step in getting healthy.

My husband beat two separate addictions, so I can speak from that perspective.

If you are on day 5, you should start to see things improve soon. You have to remeraber that it took years to get to this point as far as your body's depenedence goes, so healing isn't going to come quickly. Your brain and body BOTH are fighting against this and are going to try and send out those signals of pain in order to "get a fix".

My husband had a hard time for about the first 6-7 days, and then his sleeping paterns began to regulate. Getting real sleep made a HUGE difference with his other symptoms as rest is key in healing.

You may want to drink a ton of water to help continue flushing your system out. Also, and I know this is a hard one, please get out and push yourself to do some kind of exercise. Even if it's just walking around your yard. This in itself will help to boost your brains ability to produce endorphins. (These are the feel good chemicals) Soon enough, your brain will continue creating these and you will see even more marked improvement.

I wish you the very best, and please know that what you are doing is the absolute right thing. Stay strong and keep going. You deserve a pat on the back for making it this far. You are worth the effort!

I know that my wd's lasted about two weeks, but I had only been using hydro for about 4 years, but at much higher levels. I would think that you should start to see some relief from the physical symptoms in the next few days, exercise will help, hot baths will help with some of the pain as well. To help you sleep, you might try some excedrin pm - works best for me.

Your mind may be telling you that your body is hurting, but a lot of that is just your body chemistry re-adjusting, trying to figure out what is normal again and that takes time.

Good luck to you!
