A quick question:

In the original Dawn of the Dead, does it feature a character on the roof of the shopping mall who plays games (namely chess) with another character from another rooftop across from him, via marker pens and card?

Random question, but I seriously cannot remember that being in the Romero version?

I'm watching the remake on channel 4 now - not that bad!
 
It still annoys me that they couldn't find any other way to get to Andy at the gun store. I'm sure there'd have been a toy shop with remote control cars in the mall.
 
I've never actually seen the original 'Day of the Dead', is it any good? It's coming out on Blu Ray next month i think. Bare in mind that i love 'Night' and 'Dawn' but hated 'Land' and 'Diary'. I couldn't care less about 'Survival of the Dead' after the latter two abominations.
 
'Day....' is better than 'Land...' & 'Diary...' but the worst of the original trio for me. Oddly, even though it was the last of the three in times of when it was made, it has dated the most.

I love the opening sequence, mind.
 
I watched Dawn of the Dead again last night...it`s just one of those movies I always end up watching even though I`v already seen it.....In fact I was never a fan of the Zombie genre until I stumbled across this film a few years ago.....Speaking of which, what do you guys think of Pontypool......I bought the DVD the other week and I love the films novel approach to the genre......I particularly enjoyed the radio play, which is an extra on the dvd....It really works as a play in it`s own right.

Personally I think it`s all the better for not actually being scary.The reviews I`v read seem to range from 2/10 to 10/10; so it obviously divides opinion.
 
Its a long time since I've seen the extended version but its about 20 minutes longer than Romeros preferred version which is the theatrical cut so the footage you seek may be in that.

I don't watch it because its an unfinished edit with most of the music missing and only exists because Romero sent it to the Cannes Film Festival for screening before he had finished editing it.

It was incorrectly sold as the "Directors Cut" by the company who bought it for Laserdisc release on the condition they could call it that.

The 126 minute cinema version is the true directors cut
 
I love the 2004 remake of Dawn Of The Dead.

Great entertaiment & I know this is heresy, but I love the fast moving zombies; much more scary than the shuffling ones from the original zombie films.
