Dawn of the Dead 2004

Saw a "preview" on Film Four last night (a 10 minute bit of the film by the look of it). Looked quite good as far as I could tell from that. I hate remakes too.

Can anybody tell me what the zombie film was that was all shot in the early hours of the morning in LA?

Romero's lost the plot, all these uneccassary remakes of his classics. He obvioulsy has no sacred love for his movies. Being a huge fan of the original trilogy I'm very suspicious of this one. Why on earth doesn't he get off his fat arse and make the 4th installment he promised years ago? I'll admit to being of the opinion that the original dawn is the worst of the 3, I find it's too long, Romero could have cut out at least 30 minutes and it would be a bona-fide classic. The mtv generation will be remaking the Exorcist next, or Apocalypse Now. Heaven help us all.

Off the top of my head, or perhaps exploding out of it in a shower of blood and brain matter, the only zombie filum that springs to mind is 28 Days Later.

But that was London not LA.

ive just watched it,and what can i say its the most scary film ive ever seen, the zombies are not just the norm they run after the people like in return of the living dead.ive never been so scared.lets hope they do a 2nd one.but they dont explaine how it happened and they left the ending open for a 2nd one

The original 'Dawn of the Dead' was the middle movie of 3.
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead

'Night' was a great movie - originally made in B/W, then re-made in colour (by the same director) - the B/W version was more atmospheric, and more scary

'Dawn' originally only had 4 main characters holed up in the shopping centre, so the relationships between characters worked better, you cared more about each character, and so, got more involved in the plot.
Obviously, being newer, special effects are better in the 2004 version, but again, the original was more atmospheric, and the 'tense' moments were more exciting.

'Day' - IMO, was a shameless gore-soaked cash-in on the first two - I hope to God they don't remake that, as the original was poor enough to start with.
