David Lynch Films...

How does Season 1 end? (put in spoilers please for anyone who hasn't seen it!). I'm a bit confused because IIRC it was shown in the UK as 3 seasons - 8 episodes, 8 episodes, 14 episodes. Is the first season box set the first 16 episodes? I've got the first 16 episodes on VHS recorded from the original UK broadcasts and the story is pretty much complete then with
the death of Laura Palmer's killer in jail. IIR the story then goes more into the Project Blue Book stuff and the Owl Cave, and goes a bit off track onto the stories of the other characters - particularly Ben Horne, until David Lynch's finale in the Black Lodge (or the waiting room between the lodges or whatever it was)

have you read up on what's going on?

if you do, it makes perfect sense pretty easily.

and that moment of realisation is the moment you appreciate it's simple, but brilliant genius.

Read up where?

I'm aware there's lots of different interpretations of the movie, but I don't think Lynch has confirmed or denied any of them.

Without a doubt Wild At Heart - damn I forgot to add it to my list of favorite movies. But Eraserhead comes a close second.

Watched Dune again recently, seemed to remember that I liked it but actually on second viewing I didn't.

Haven't seen any of Lynch's new stuff, guess I should really.

Have watched Inland Empire about 6 times in the last five months and I have say despite still not understanding it's full meaning. IT's the most bizarre yet brilliant thing Lynch has ever done.

It makes Mulholland Drive seem like an Agatha Christie Novel in comparison.

If any Lynch fans haven't seen it, SEE IT.

It will screw with your head more than any drug trip ever could and it gets better each time you view it :D

I wouldn't read up on it. Just think about Lynch's clues and work it out for yourself. And I agree with pj68 that it does get better each time you watch it once you've got a realisation as to what's going on. There's so much detail in it.

Wow! Delighted to see Lynch being discussed here.
I'd really recommend getting yourself some Twin Peaks, if you haven't seen it. Very much in the vein of Blue Velvet, and IMO the best television series ever.
Would second recommendations for Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive. I really can't stand Wild at Heart but I know some people really love it. If you're not up for too much weirdness The Straight Story is a really beautiful film, and doesn't have the same surrealist, nightmarish tone of his other work.
But, if you are up for some weirdness then I don't think anyone has mentioned Inland Empire, which has just come out on DVD, I think. Did anyone else see this in the cinema? That is one seriously intense cinematic experience, and you're unlikely to ever see anything else like it. After watching it I couldn't get it out of my mind for days.

I presume everyone is aware that Mulholland Drive was planned as a TV series. David Lynch said he wanted to do what he failed to do with Twin Peaks (don't know quite what he meant by that - Twin Peaks was amazing!) He made the pilot episode but the studio got cold feet and I think there was a protracted legal battle, with DL trying to gain control of the pilot so he could develop it into the film. The studio was going to do the same thing that happened with Twin Peaks - release the pilot episode as a finished film in Europe.
Did anyone see this film version of Twin Peaks? I've got it on video. It's basically the first episode with...
an ending tacked on where Cooper, the Sheriff and Andy confront Bob in the basement of the hospital after being led there by the one-armed man, and then it cuts to a "twenty-five years later" scene, which is basically the scene with Cooper, The Man From Another Place and Laura Palmer (who isn't Laura Palmer) in the stripey floored red curtained lodge, talking backwarRAB.
I remember thinking after I'd seen it "how on earth are they going to make that into a TV series???"

So glad to see the recommendations for Mulholland Drive.

I saw it get recommended elsewhere on here, ordered it on Friday and its on its way. Can't wait to see it!
