Daughter wants a car after unsuccessful semester of college?

Need advice concerning my 19 year old daughter whose in college. She went to a community college after she graduated high school and had a 3.7 GPA. The following year she enrolled at a University. Her first semester there was a disaster. She didn't pass any of her classes because of all of the parties she attended. Might I add she's on academic probation and now has a 1.7 GPA. Next week she's going back but she wants to take a car with her. Me or my husband do not agree. Are we wrong? Please help and please no smart comments. Thanks!

I'd say give her one more chance to improve. Allow her use of a car (hell, it can be a "beater"), but with the condition that if she doesn't raise her grades to an off-probation status and a level acceptable to the both of you, both the car and her college days are gone. Fair enough?

Obviously, I don't know the whole story, but I'm also giving your daughter credit for successfully passing high school, getting an excellent GPA in community college, and seems to now at least have close to a C after she "didn't pass any of her classes". So, I'm assuming she had a horrific first semester and is doing "better" the second?? I believe in second chances where warranted. If you two think she's now hopeless, then don't give her a car.

she shouldnt be relying on her parents anymore shes an adult i know i got the hel out of my house when i was 18 and never looked back and did things for myseld

No, you and your husband are the parents and must set a limit on her freedom. If my child wanted a car and she did a horrible job in school, I wouldn't buy her one. No way.

I say make a deal with her: if she gets her act together and gets off academic probation, then she'll get a car. It's only far.

Obviously you should not let her have a car. Why should you reward her for failing all of her classes? Not to mention having a car gives her the freedom to go to even more parties whenever she wants. Simply tell her that if she doesn't pull up her grades significantly (She is on the verge of being kicked from school) then she will not be getting a car from you guys for quite some time.
