daughter gets really hot & coughs terribly bad

my daughter has asthma and has been diagnosed since she was about 3. She is now 9 and several times a year we have this problem. She gets a little trickle of nasal drip and within 24 hours she is coughing a little then within 48 she is coughing really bad and has a dry cough. She has a deep wheeze when she breathes but thank the good Lord she doesnt have trouble breathing. Has anyone else had similar problems and what do you use or do to control the cough. She is having a lot of problems late at night and early morning....I dont like the narcotic cough syrups so we use a littel honey lemon and whiskey which usually works but nothing is helping the past 24 hours.....her dr says she neeRAB to rest and not do anything physical for 2 weeks which is hard on her and everyone else as well. zI may need to post to the insanity board before the time is up....lol.....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....Thanks toots
 
When she gets the first indication (nasal drip or whatever), you should have a plan from your pulmonologist as to what to do. My plan says to up my daily asthma med (I add one puff of Flovent to my regular regimen) until I am over the situation. if oyu don't have one, ask her pumonologist for a written plan for when she gets sick, has an attack, etc. I never have to call mine any more because I know what to do and it takes care of it. Is that all that her dr says?
by any chance do you have an idea of what may trigger these
attacks?
for example
when this starts happening is it always cold, or is iy humid?
 
Seems nobody understanRAB that we recognize the pattern begins with nasal drip....I have been told to give her Benadryl or similar.....We have began using childrens Zyrtec which is helping some but not completely....May sound crazy but a dear friend told us about a Chinese remedy for coughs....Quite simple at bedtime to rub Vicks vapor Rub on soles of feet cover with socks and should be better come morning....Okay we said lets give it a try....Cough one really bad episode for about 30 to 45 minutes then rested quietly most of the night....Has hardly coughed sine then....She will usually keep the cough for 2 weeks....Next time we will try this the first night....Toots
 
It seems she gets worse cool damp air....We went to Disney and the late afternoon fans that blew damp air from the fans one afternoon caused her some problems.....Toots
