DataViz Documents to Go 8?

Hi, I have recently bought a Tungsten T5 with Documents to Go v. 7 pro. pre-installed. I have found this useful, but it has some limitations, namely:
No support for graphics in Native Word
Cannot produce charts in excel
Can only view native powerpoint
plus probably others.

I understand that v.8 premium addresses these, and allows viewing of PDF files. I'm thinking about upgrading, but have read mixed reviews, ranging from excellent to abysmal.

Does anybody out there have an opinion? If good, please respond - I'd like to come to a balanced view.

Many Thanks,
Paul.

Depends on if you really need them - I'm not you, but I imagine D2Go 8 is huge - I'm on 6.008, which I was able to upgrade to with my T3. I've never used PowerPoint and don't use Word2Go - only Sheet2Go.

View charts in Excel would appeal to me - the other stuff wouldn't. But I'm not you. Is there a way you can use a "trial" to see if it helps you? Remember that D2Go is in ROM with your unit, as you mentioned. Upgrading just puts another copy of the app(s) in RAM, and the Palm knows which is later version - but you've got "doubling up," if that bothers you. Also, research this forum for some problems people had when upgrading D2Go, reverting to old version, and having some serious problems involving a file(s) that wouldn't go away and kept interfering with operation under the "old" version.

This is why D2G should NEVER have been pre-installed - 2 weeks after people buy their unit there's a new version they "may" want or not - and now have it all installed twice. It's lunacy, and the reason I first got JackSprat and purged the ROM version. Unfortunately, that's not compatible with the T5.

Hello, I like the program even with it's problems. I am retired, and still work for the same company part time. They send me word, and spread sheets via e-mail, and it is nice to put it on the palm so I can have it with me when needed. The biggest issue I have with dataviz is there is no customer support unless you have the latest version. I have version 6 and it is fine for me. I do not really need the other programs, but wish I had customer support, because when the palm has problems, it is usually the docs program reference not closing a file right. When it works it is a great program. GP

I might upgrade but it is pretty price...I might try to find an alternative program or see if a friend has used it and ask if he likes the new version.

I have been using Documents to Go Premium since version 6 and have never experienced the issues you mentioned. Quick Office has the Powerpoint issue of only allowing editing and viewing, but not D2G 8. Docs To Go lets you create presentations and view graphics in native files. Documents To Go is very flexible and I have found version 8 to be very stable. I can't help but wonder if you got Quick Office and Documents To Go mixed up as the office suite with the issues.

As for support, I have never had to contact Dataviz for help. However, I know the company frequently posts updates and patches on their Web page. Customers are able to access them free of charge. Existing customers are rewarded with special upgrade deals, including customers who had earlier versions bundled with their handhelds. Dataviz has better support and PR than most vendors.

Dwinget, Thank you for your valuable comments. There's no mix-up; I think it's the fact that I have the pro version of D2G 7 that limits my activities (plus, maybe a bit trimmed down as a "freebie" with the T5?). Quick Office is a possibility, but, so long as the general opinion is that there's no major issues with D2G 8, I would prefer to go for it - especially considering the point you've made, plus the pdf viewing facility.
