data plans

Weird story but i'm a Rogers sales rep and the plans i told you about are the current plans available and that i sell. Where did you get your information? a Rogers booth with a certified Rogers sales rep or any other store selling Rogers phone? Like the source or wal-mart ..those guys are clueless.

If you bought an unlocked phone and using a Rogers sim atm, there's no problem if you want to get a local sim there.

I'm very sorry you got to deal with clueless reps ...makes my job harder for me too!

Plan a trip to quebec city and i'll work this with you

I have spoken to at least three reps in real Rogers stores, but the disconnect seems to be when I get on the phone with customer service to actually set up the plans the reps have told me about. The reps seem to have the same info you have (although none have laid it out like you have), but the CSRs appear to be the truly clueless ones. Perhaps if I give you my situation you can prescribe a plan I'll be happy with...

I have an unlocked Blackberry 7100t, and I am using this device as my personal phone/PDA so I don't have access to a BES server. One of the reasons I bought an older unlocked phone rather than get a newer BB like the Pearl was to avoid having a contract. I do my emailing from the phone using the GMail Mobile client applet, which was a big selling point for me on the BB platform. I also use the Google Maps applet and a few chat clients.

My girlfriend lives in Colorado so I spend about one weekend a month there, and although I live in Hamilton, I work contracts all over the GTA, so I need a calling plan with enough long-distance minutes that I am not getting dinged for LD every time a call comes in. With the calls I make to Colorado, NA wide long distance is a necessity. Also, I can use well over a hundred SMS messages in a week back and forth to Colorado, so the 2500 SMS package seems like a good solution unless you can suggest something else.

Though I rarely, if ever, browse the web with the phone, the Google Maps application seems to be a bit of a bandwidth hog, and using GMail uses more than push mail would, so I think I am going to need at least 25Mb/mo. I am very curious about the $5 fee to double bandwidth alowance... NOBODY has mentioned this to me before.

I guess what I really need clarified is if I set up a BB data plan that meets my needs, will it actually have voice minutes built in? The brochures and plan sheets I've seen imply yes, but the CSRs keep pushing the separate voice plan. In fact, when initially signing on with Rogers, I was forced to go through one CSR who found out what I wanted, then another to choose a voice plan, then she finally passed me off to another CSR to set up a data plan. The whole process is geared to having you choose and commit to a voice plan before you ever get to the BB data CSR. I'm paying quite a lot for voice right now, which seems unnecessary if the data plan already includes voice time. If so, can I add a long-distance plan to it or does this require switching to a completely separate voice plan? I would need a LD plan that allows all incoming calls to be local regardless of my location while I am in Southern Ontario, and also gives me outgoing calls NA wide.

So here is the basic list of what I think I need...

BB 25Mb data plan, maybe more when I find out how much I have used this month. The $5 for an extra 25Mb sounds very attractive.

At least 200 anytime minutes and probably 300 or more E&W starting at 6pm. I also need some kind of LD plan to eliminate the charges for incoming calls when I am not in Hamilton, and for calling around Canada and the US. The plan I switched to a couple of days ago has 250 daytime and 500 E&W minutes, and all NA calls are local (when placed or received in the Rogers coverage area). Once I see a few monthly bills I might have to bump these levels up a bit. My ultimate goal is to be able to eliminate my home phone altogether, which I hardly use anymore anyway.

2500 SMS/mo.

Caller ID and voice mail.

Avoiding a contract is important to me. I just got out of a Bell Mobility contract which I wanted out of for 18 months.

If you can find me a package that meets my needs and costs less than the $143/mo I am currently paying I would be eternally grateful.

***EDIT***

Hmmm, I just noticed you are in la Belle Province... is it possible the plans are different in Ontario?

I used to be a manager for The Source in Mauricie, Quebec and we were selling more phone than any other Rogers booth in the area so please be gentle some Rep in The Source are not that bad

PS Je ne savais pas que tu

I don't think our plans are different in Quebec(no gurantee). This is hard, you want alot of stuff ..available across different plans ..that's expensive and confusing for a sales rep :P There was quite a few changes to plans Feb 01 that might be why you never heard of it. Like that 5$/month for double data ..it's new! I'm at home now so i'll try to help as best as i can.

Get the 90$ BB voice&data plan 350mins 25mb
+5$ a month for double data.
Voice mail and Caller ID? Get the 12$ package..for the same price of those two you get Caller name AND phone #, missed call log and better voice mail.
SMS are now unlimited ...but i'm not sure for BBs plans. I'm at home now ..i'll verify tomorrow.

When traveling, i suggest getting another plan for that month, changing plan is free and change it back to the original when your back.
One rate plan for US & Canada $85 300mins no long disctance wherever you are in Canada or USA.

Like i said, i'm at home ..i'll double check this when at work tomorrow. try to make clearer for what you want IN canada and what you want OUTSIDE canada.

Selling more phones does not mean better customer service :P In my area anyway, reps other than rogers's are clueless..not all of course and some rogers employee might be too but oh well you know what i mean :P

Salut sniper! ouaip j'suis de quebec!
