I'm looking to upgrade to the Samsung Solstice. It says you need a data plan or messaging plan. I really don't want a data plan, but I have the unlimited texting plan. If I buy the phone would I have to buy the data plan for the "free" price or would it still be free because I have the texting plan?

So basically do I still need the data plan and either way how much would the phone be?
What is a text plan? I have unlimited texting...is that one?

The Solstice is not required to get a data plan. If you want to buy it from AT&T and you want to be able to get the stupid mail in rebate, you need to get either a data plan or a text plan.

Here's a better idea. Do your upgrade at an authorized AT&T retailer like Walmart.com. The phone is free - no rebates or any other nonsense. The plans are the same and, right now, they're apparently waiving the activation fee.

If you want a data plan, it's about $10/month - it's really worth it.
