Data Only plan- want to upgrade

I currently have Verizon for voice and want to switch to Tmobile. I already have a BB with Tmobile using the data only plan.

I am 1 year into a 2 year contract, and want to add another BB and make it a family plan with voice.

How do I do this and get the most for my $? I have been told I need to renew my plan to get another line, but what do I get out of it?

Tmobile said they could give me a pearl for the 2nd line for $149. If I do this would I be eligible for a new phone in a year on my line?

Wait for the vz contract to expire then make the jump fully over to Tmo. This way you avoid early termination fees.

That's a pretty sweet deal Tmo is offering you.

As for the upgrade thing. When you start the family plan, I think you will have to renew your line and do a new agreement for your 2nd line. I would check with Customer care though.

also keep other sources in mind like wirefly.com (free and still has $50 mail in rebate) inphonic.com and amazon.com - both have the pearl on sale for $50 if I remember correctly. You can add the 2nd line through those, then change it to a family plan after it arrives.
 
I dont know if that will work for me. If I have a year left on my current account, will they let me open a new account and merge the two? Will wirefly and the others allow a rebate if you modify the plan?
 
If TMo offered you the deal directly, then wirefly (an authorized dealer) is probably not going to be able to honor that deal. If you go to a TMo owned store, then that would be a much better possibility.

I would do some investigating because I'm new to this kind of thing as well.
