Data Limit on "Unlimited" Plan?

There's a limit to everything; web hosts that claim "unlimited" bandwidth/storage for $10/month, $100 for membership for "life", *insert more examples since I can't think of others*... they all have limits.

What's the T-Mobile definition of "Unlimited" Data Plan per month?

At one point in time they were going to impose a cap but they decided to keep it unlimited.

They did state that excessive use will be capped at a point then throttled, though they did not state what they define as excessive.

I've heard that they will throttle you after 10GB/month, but who knows if that's true. I can't use anywhere near that much on a mobile device.

There are times I don't go over 10 Gb on my home cable internet service (most likely makes up for the times where I go over as much as 100Gb) still w/o tethering I never see anyone hitting 10 Gb just using the apps for the phone itself.

3GB in the UK. Not bad, not unlimited. IMO, the phrase "Unlimited internet, limited to 3GB" is ridiculous, but that's what they mean. Much better if they just keep it simple.

On the other hand, O2's unlimited UK limit is officially 200MB, although they are unofficially dropping that since you'd be stuck from week 2 onwards. 200MB is... daft, although that doesn't stop the shop assistants telling you that's more than you could ever use in a month.

my buddy (tmo employee) just told me about this limit sunday. Hardly a limit, i think. 10/gb seems like a lot but i havent gotten my G1 yet (went tonight but had none in stock) so i cant be sure yet

but yea, once over the limit you'll only get EDGE speeds... so your data IS unlimited, however, your 3G speeds aren't

Talked to a T3 T-Mo rep that said it is in-fact UNLIMITED. Even if they do throttle you after 10 GB, that is still nearly impossible to reach on a cell phone. Now when people come out with solid solutions on how to tether your phone to a computer for internet access, that is another story :] (i've pulled 300 GB every month from comcast for the past 5 years and haven't heard a peep from them, but i doubt i'd have the patience to reach that with tethered internet access since it would be quite a bit slower..)

? The likelihood you ever hit the limit is slim-to-none. If you do, you're probably doing something you're not suppose to be doing... a la tethering or similar. Your other choice is to hop to another provider that charges you more... not really ideal either way.

i guess im a power user whose outgrowing what they can offer and i dont use torrents via t-mo, if they offered unlimited unlimited data for $40-$50 i'd gladly stay & pay but they don't

tmo offers 5gb for $20-$30 advertised as unlimited data which is really unlimited limited data, i tried using pandora, youtube hd, audio galaxy, google voice, google maps & countless other apps on 2G which is the speeds you're throttled down to after going over 5gb & man I can only imagine video streaming via ustream or video chatting/calling which may be a focus on the next android os via 2G, plus everything's moving to the clouds

at&t is worst with its 2gb cap imo, so I plan on switching over to sprint or verizon, sprint & verizon doesn't have a cap on their unlimited plans, but they are about $10 more then t-mobile (samsung or motorola may be behind the next google experience phone, so i'm waiting for the CES or 1st half of next year to decide which one I'll be heading over to) also by then I'd be able to see will the two companies follow suit and add caps to their 4g networks

plus i plan on purchasing a wifi only tablet (to use with tethering), even tho a netflix or hulu app havent hit the android market yet i plan on using those services via flash the web browser, along with many other cool apps that may require data now that we've crossed the 100,000 mark

To hit the 5GB cap I'd have to stream Pandora 24x7 for the entire month to hit the limit. I'd still be impressed if you hit it. Doing simple things like turning wifi on at home will spare you even getting close if you're a power user?

my bad lol

you're right, at home & school i'd be fine with my phone and a tablet, but im only at home & school for like 2-3hours tops

and at work i use 3g(soon to be 4G maybe), i stream via audio galaxy & pandora when traveling to work, while at work, and traveling away from work (guess i can delete audio galaxy app and carry my ipod, but my ipod tops at 160gb while audio galaxy tops at 200gb lol and i know i cant listen to 200gigs of music in 8hours which isnt my goal i just like the option of having my music library in my hands, maybe buying a standalone gps can save me on the data side also? or only facebooking, tumblring, blogging, and twittering at home & school) i visit alot and i mean alota of tech and hiphop blogs so im watching hours of youtube videos to help make my work day go by faster

i guess im upset and venting that I got a text from tmo about me nearing my limit and then reading their new tethering plans which i thought meant they'll charge you to tether for additional $15 with additional gb but i was wrong, their new tethering plan uses the same bucket as the 5gb (http://www.berryreview.com/2010/10/26/t-mobile-rolling-out-new-14-99-tethering-plan-on-november-3rd/), i just wished tmo offered a 10gb plan or higher, i understand the issues with congestion and etc, but whose only going to use video chat or live tv via their home wifi lol

Here's another resurrection - sorry!

Just got my first Android - well the whole family did. My son likes to download free mp3s and I have fallen in love with Pandora. Hubby won't use any of this stuff. However, I got a little leery when Pandora said it was a data hog. I'm hoping my "unlimited" T-MO plan will be ok with this. I think they have upped the amount? Is it still 5 GB or is it 10? Thanks for any help. Hate getting nasty letters, LOL. I probably will only use Pandora a few hours a day. I do have the wifi on my Optimus, so I hope that will help - thanks for the suggestion!

If you just bought a tmobile contract, the new cap is 2gb. They changed it a week or two ago. The plan is cheaper, but they throttle your connection at 2gb. I would never recommend them now. I'm glad I have my grandfathered plan with 5gb soft cap.
