Darker than Black TV Anime Sequel Green-Lit

Alright, so, with a new series, what are your guys expectations? I personally would like it to be slightly more plot-centric, but it won't be the end of the world if they do mini-arcs again. I think a lot of the charm in the first is because of the mini-arcs. I'd like a bit more background on Hei, definately. We know next to nothing about what his life was before Pai turned into a contractor.

Though, I will be sad that

Araber won't be around. I thought she was a cute character so it's a bummer to see her go. Oh and Noveraber 11, it'll be pretty hard to replace that badass.

I definitely agree with all of the above. I actually enjoyed the 2 part method of the episodes and while it did take some getting used to, I liked it overall. Surprisingly I thought the show was boring until Noveraber 11 and Araber entered the mix. The episodes that came after I felt were progressively better but I wonder what the plot of the next season would be.

Also is Yokko Kanno going to be on this too? I won't lie the only reason why I even started to watched it was because of Kanno =/

Kanno isn't confirmed to have come back... yet.

I'm more concerned by the fact that Hei and Yin are only going to be important secondaries and that the new main for this season is some 13 year old Japanese-Russian girl with a sniper rifle.

No. It's confirmed. All the magazines last month introduced us to little Suou (who was reconfirmed as the new main) and her merry band of Russian frienRAB.

I don't know. Kanno seemed to be phoning it in the first series. It felt kinda like a half-hearted reprisal of her Cowboy Bebop jazz scores with some techno/hard rock thrown in. Granted, Kanno phoning it in is better than 90% of all other anime composers but I was let down by it a bit. Maybe it's because she's put herself up to a really high standard but DnB doesn't hold up to the rest of her work.

Granted, this is the only Kanno score I've ever actually listened to (have watched but a spare bit of CB since I were a wee lad).

My favorite Kanno score is actually her Wolf's Rain score. Even if you hate the show the music is definitely worth your time. Plus nearly all of the songs with vocals are in English like Bebop's. CB, Escaflowne, and Turn A Gundam also have spectacular scores.

I'm not saying DnB has a bad score, it's definitely above average, but by Kanno's standarRAB it is lacking. Then again I feel her Macross Frontier score is terrible (not just by Kanno's standarRAB but typical anime OST standarRAB) so maybe I'm just insane.

Yoko Kanno won't be back, but Yasushi Ishii (Hellsing OST) will be doing the music now.

and it sounRAB like a rehash of the hellsing OST from what? 2002 I believe...I mean not that I mind the hellsing OST in the very least and granted kanno did mish mash some things from her earlier work but as Jacob said, that work is 95% better than most other composers

I suppose on the one hand hearing that yin et al are going to be secondary characters makes it seem like ROD tv (didn't like it in the least) but it could be better...it has to be better, right?

Actually, I said that, and I said it was 90%, but who really cares?

So Kanno is not coming back. Somehow, I'm not surprised, like I said, she seemed to be phoning it in for the most part. She composed enough for 3 OSTs and only 1 OST was ever released for the show too. I guess this is a sign that the unreleased music from the 1st series will never be released, which is disappointing.

Yasushi Ishii is kinda the wrong man for this job. His Hellsing work was too cheesy, IMO. Darker Than Black should be more serious, but I'm left wondering, especially after seeing that trailer, whether the sequel will be more whimsical than the first.

It's a sad day when abingdon boys school isn't popular enough to do more than the ED while the OP is being done by a trio of pop/punk upstarts who got lucky enough to open for Gundam.

ABS is still popular, they just don't get much action because of Takanori Nishikawa also having his solo career as "T.M. Revolution".

I'm just depressed about it. Stereopony isn't necessarily a bad group but they don't fit DnB all that well. They're too upbeat and poppy, which again makes me worried than this season will be far more light-hearted and cheesy.
