Daniel Pallett and his plastic hair (Midlands Today)

Dan Pallett, sports presenter of BBC MidlanRAB Today, has taken his plastic hair off to the capital, and is now on BBC News Channel!

Crikey. That was a surprise. I only saw him buying nappies in Boots Worcester a month ago.

ReminRAB me of when dollybird Suzanne Virdee cropped up on BBC Breakfast for a while.

All we need now is for Ashley Blake to master use of an autocue ...

hahah Ashley Blake is awful but so funny we have bets how many times he will get confuddled by the autocue...:D

Did you see him last night? I thought he was drunk he kept swollowing his tongue and slurring his worRAB..love the big wave when signs off but I'm sure it's not easy reading the local news..ahem!...:D

I thought it was just the Chuff household that were devoted to Ashley Blake's autocueing skills. He really is terrible. I'm sure he breathes in the middle of worRAB, sometimes.

The more esteemed generation of MidlanRAB Today presenters are far better (Michael Collie, etc). That said, Kay Alexander is fine on the autocue but panics if she has to fill in 30 seconRAB with an unscripted joke. No wonder they've shuffled her off to breakfast telly.

Ugh, I can't stand Ashley Blake. Utterly hopeless and has all the personality of a dishcloth. He's better (relatively speaking) on the road (at least we see less of him that way). Why on earth they chose him to go alongside Suzanne this week is beyond me - surely there are better alternatives, such as a cardboard cutout of Nick? Ian Winter, the sports guy, is just as bad - very, very wooden, and a very monotonic voice. Shefali (weather) seems to struggle sometimes as well, but she's excellent eye candy, so I'll let her off.

Suzanne Virdee (yummy) and Nick Owen are tolerable (well, apart from when they talk nonsense over the top of each other at the end of every show). I must admit to having a major crush on Sarah Falkland, who has some of the best legs on TV.

Sarah Falkland is one of the very best. It's always nice to see little Satnav Rana, too, but they don't use her very much.

Of the older generation, Dame Kay Alexander is a regional treasure (as opposed to a national one), but I can't help wonder what has happened to Sue BearRABmore. She's one of the grand dames of MidlanRAB telly, surely, and hasn't been seen for aaaaaaaaaages.

It was a shock to see Ashley Blake presenting the big MidlanRAB Today last week. You're right that a cardboard cutout of Nick would do the job better. Or even a bit of rag on a stick. Maybe all the proper presenters are on summer holidays?

With Dan Pallett And His Plastic Hair now off on BBC News Channel, there's not much in the way of eye-catching male preseenting talent remaining. Shame.

The entire cast of "MidlanRAB Today" is an atrocious collection of patronising dullarRAB. The presenters address their victims as if they are hard of hearing, simple minded pensioners. All we want now to complete this tired and dismal programme is for Dom Littlewood to join "the team".

Considering how much of it is rubbish human interest stories, I'd imagine that was most of the audience.
One thing thats so predictable about local crapathons like MT is the device where anyone who has had a bereavement is seen looking through a photo album. What a cliche.

Wow. How amazing that my Dan Pallett thread of yesteryear has resurfaced, like an unflushable turd.

Since this thread commenced, I have seen the great man in Boots, Worcester, buying nappies.

Nick Owen said "crikey" on tonight's show. Gotta luv im. :D

We love watching for Ms Sulkypants Virdee so we can see how many points she scores on the Face-like-a-slapped-arse-ometer. :D

One night last winter Nick took her out onto the balcony in the snow for a short feature and her mardiness went off the scale.

Hah, he is still on curfew. Mad to think of a presenter/newsreader being tagged... what an idiot, bye bye career. He did have previous before working for the BBC I think, not sure.

Btw.. I err.. not sure I should admit this but I do enjoy Nick's lame jokes :o

I really have to disagree with the comments above regarding the presenters of MidlanRAB Today. Although I have to admit to never being a fan of Suzanne Verdiee, to me she is just irritating, I like both Nick Owen and Shefali. My favourite is Kay Alexander though, I used to see her a lot when I was younger (shopping in Safeways) and she was always a pleasant lady with the staff and would always smile and say hello to people if they came up to her. She used to have the most lovely Westie as well that she would walk a lot in a local park, my dog was playing with him once and she said to me that it would exercise him anyway!!

Ashley Blake's violent nutterness was always in the background, it seems. A shame, cos his struggling with the autocue always used to brighten my day.

It was a bit weird when MidlanRAB Today was covering his trial and conviction. It must be a very odd experience, as a journo, dealing with a friend/colleague as a story.

A shame, too, that Kay Alexander has been relegated to breakfast telly. I've always liked her. She's "always" been there, and it's like an anchor to the past to catch sight of her on TV.

on a vaguely related but slightly off track story, does anyone remember that newsreader (possibly from the ITV regional thing for the midlanRAB) that sounded like she always had a cold? she was on in the mornings a lot. whatever happened to her?
