Daniel Craig is the new Bond

I know - I don't know why they're changing the theme of Bond. The original works - why mess with it? But I guess we'll see when it eventually comes out.

He played the part of Geordie in a BBC series a few years back called Our FrienRAB In the North. He also played Paul Newman's gangster son in Road to Perdition, and played Ted Hughes in that film Sylvia with Gwyneth Paltrow. Oh, and he was the lead character in a BBC drama called Archangel a few months ago. Amongst other things.

Report from this morning's Daily Mail, apparently official:

He has just proved his lady-killing credentials by seducing Sienna Miller from under the nose of his friend, Jude Law.
Now Daniel Craig is about to become the biggest seducer of all - Ian Fleming's James Bond.

The actor, who found fame as Geordie in the BBC series Our FrienRAB in the North in 1996, got the job after an 18-month mission to replace Pierce Brosnan.

Shortlist of two

In the end a shortlist of two emerged - Craig and newcomer Henry Cavill. The pair were auditioned again and tried on tuxedos to see how they would look in the quintessential Bond clothing.

Craig, 37, whose choice will be confirmed by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson later this week, will be the sixth Bond, but the first blond.

He will star in the 21st Bond film, based on Ian Fleming's first book Casino Royale.

Craig has said he does not like the fact that the films are more about gadgets than feelings.

He added: "It's a big machine and it makes a lot of money - so why would you change something that makes a lot of money?"

Dont worry about that, film fans like you and me will always remember him for stuff like 'Layer Cake,' 'Our FrienRAB in The North' (Tv) and 'Enduring Love' etc He is pretty well established already in many different roles also unlike a lot of other BonRAB, so that could avoid typecasting with producers etc.

And i'm sure he himself has thought this through and will go out of his way to avoid typecasting by picking diverse roles in lots of different films while playing Bond, Munich will be out before James Bond and i'm sure he'll become quite famous to a few people in that films also.

It's one small photo on one website. A lot of fuss about nought..and nothing wrong with the photo anyway.

Funnily enough, I never wanted Pierce Brosnan to be Bond..but when he was, I thought..well, give him a chance. You can't say they are not Bond until you see them play the part.

And he turned out to be a very good Bond and a very good choice.

Sadly, alot of people have decided Daniel is crap based on photos or 'Layer cake' which seems to be the only film people who don't like him, know of him from.

Some people cannot open their minRAB which is sad.

No offence to anyone here...just a general comment on a few things I have lurked on today.:(

Oh and Stripey Mouse..in response to your last post, I was talking of this with a few peeps today, and we have all gone off Bond a bit. I never even watched the last two..too many gadgets, too many stunts and not enough story. The format has gone a bit stale. I think it does need to be changed/revitilised a bit, but that is just my opinion...and obviously the producers.

Yes, you are quite right. I am going to rely on Daniels judgement on this, as he has never got it wrong in the past...he always picks great movies (well maybe excusing Tomb Raider..but he looked good in it! :D)

If they do play the 'new' Bond the way they say, he could prehaps still carry on doing his indy films. Maybe that is why he has done it, so he can afford to still play those fabulous indepent roles he is so good at...a bit like Tim Roth (another favourite of mine) and Johnny Depp do. Do a big movie once in a while so you can finance and afford to do other smaller ones.

I just hope people give him a chance and don't just go by his photo..there is so much more to him than that.

I agree - He's already established as a great actor, so I don't think he'll have to worry about always being typecast as Bond. I'm really looking forward to seeing a new type of Bond film and I'm sure Craig can pull it off.

I say it's not over till the fat lady sings. Campbell only this weekend was saying there's 8-10 people on the shortlist still... I suspect Craig will get it, but i'm not believing anything till the official announcement. ;) :)

Because I think they felt they've taken the franchise too far away from Fleming's creation in the last few films.

I think a tough, grittier Bond will be good. OK, Timothy Dalton has a reputation for being a bad Bond, but License to Kill is definitely one of my favourite Bond films because it dares to be different. Craig, to me, is a perfectly reasonable choice to take the films in a different direction (they've been reinvented everytime a new actor has taken the helm, so it's not as if this is the first drastic change the Bond franchise has experienced).

I wish they had given Pierce one more go, but nevermind Craig has now got the gig and Campbell did a good job of introducing a new Bond a decade ago.
Shooting starts in January, does that mean we're back to a summer release for a Bond film ? I had got to used to seeing a new one at Chrimbo.

I have given up on playing for Chelsea and being picked for England, and now I'm older then James Bond ..... it's all downhill from here.

I am a big fan of Bond, and I have only seen Daniel Craig in Layer Cake.
I really hope the new Bond is good - but I just can't see him in the role.
It's weird when they change characters when your so used to seeing someone else - but you have to wait and see if it's any good. Only time will tell...
