Daniel Craig as Bond in Casino Royal

Who is the best Bond?

That's a contentious question as everyone has their preference.

I can see why Connery is held so high & for me his best movie was: You only Live Twice, little Nellie & the Ninja Commandos fantastic movie.

Moore was great too & IMHO seriously under rated as Bond.

Lazenby only made one movie & I have to say I was somewhat ambivilent about him, perhaps had he done another movie I would have been able to come to a conclusion. For me Diana Rigg & the Theme music made the movie & the fantastic Telly Savalas as the evil Blofeld

I've taken notes of all your comments, so obviously I was wrong about Daniel Craig.
I'll have to watch it again.
The only thing I think maybe it would have been better to watch on the big screen without advert breaks etc.

I was pleasantly surprised both by Craig's performance and by the writers recapturing something of the feel of Fleming's character.

Not really sure Tarantino is an authority on who is a good Bond, its no more than an opinion like anyone else's.

We also have to consider his sour grapes at EON not going with his proposed version of Casino Royale.

Given the success of Casino Royale with Daniel Craig, any folly Tarantino speaks of is unfounded. It certainly isn't anything more than his opinion.

2 pages and no one has mentioned how 'hot' Daniel Craig is!
Ok theres a serious aspect in relation to the role and the films and interpretation of Ian Flemings ovels - but in terms of sex appeal my list is:
Daniel Craig
Sean Connery
Timothy Dalton
Roger Moore
George Lazenby
Pierce Brosnan
:D

I thought Casino Royale was superb as was Craig's performance.

I would rate BonRAB in this order.

1. Connery
2. Brosnan
3. Craig
4. Lazenby
5. Dalton
6. Moore.

Other than Timothy Dalton, Mr Craig is my favourite Bond.

As for Casino Royale it was superb. I have watched over and over the opening sequence. How can anybody not have been enthralled by the heart monitoring scene in the Aston.

OHMSS has one of the greatest end acts to any action film in film history. The attack on Piz Gloria, Bond's team landing, the base being blown up, Bond chasing Blofeld, the bob-sleigh chase, the wedding, Tracy being killed. To say that is classic stuff is the understatement of the century! Indiana Jones, Dirty Harry, Jason Bourne, Ethan Hunt, John McClane etc - sorry, nice try you lot but Bond was the ultimate film hero.

Personally I find JB films a bit of a joke confirmed after watching Goldeneye last night with my son we were laughing and pointing out all the ridiculous stunts etc... But...
Daniel Craig in Casino Royale was the best of the bunch.. even going right back to the beginning. Not so sure about QofS I was a little disappointed with that after CR but my sons loved it.

I'd also like to add I thought Dalton was good. I wasn't too impressed with Living Daylights but License to kill was fantastic & for me he was Bond dark & vengeful it is a pity he never went on to do more.

Brosnan was just superb & without doubt was one of the best.

Am not too struck on Craig I think he's rather wooden. The action sequences are excellent thought Quantum of Solace was for me pants lots of action pity about the plot.

I was massively underwhelmed by Casino Royale too. Sure, it was good to refreshen up the franchise with a more back-to-basics approach (i.e. no more invisible cars!).....but it was an obvious and thinly veiled attempt to piggy-back on the success of the 'Bourne' Trilogy. Daniel Craig does a good job too, but for me, the biggest letdown of the film was the story....basically centred around a Poker game....which again was a rather obvious (albeit late) attempt at piggy-backing on the recent success of Texas Hold 'Em.

...mind you, it really set the tone for QoS, which for me was a better film all round...

Bond 22 - Bourne 3.

Bond has always had mad stunts and frenetic fight scenes. I cannot see how Bond rips off Bourne at all. Bond as a franchise had to adapt to the current cinema going publics' taste but there is nothing in the Bourne films not seen before by Bond fans. Running over rooftops was one example, well yes that was in QoS as well as Bourne, but it was also in The Living Daylights after Bond shoots Pushkin. Are people trying to say that the Bourne directors never used Bond as an insipiration?

Casino Royale closely followed the plot of the book, just had a modern twist. The difference of course being baccarat as the original card game. Didn't realise there was a resurgence of Texas Hold 'Em but it is obvious Campbell thought not enough people would be familiar with baccarat so I think you are right there.

I think it's how it's actually shot, the editing and so on techniques are quite like the Bourne films, never seen it really done like that in the previous Bond films until Casino Royale came along. I'm not complaining though. :)

Very true, just seeing Bond sliding down the curling rink on his front firing his machine gun certainly left more of a mark on me than a balding man in a stinking vest and dirty barefeet shooting his way round a tower block.

I do however disagree with you about Craig. I do rate him, highly. :p
