Dancing with infants?

I am in the habit of dancing with my 3 months old when she is cranky. She is colicky and it calms her down. I put on one of those MTV channels and we dance around. I was wondering if moving around too fast could be shaking her? I am holding her head and I don't do any jumps but when I move a little faster than "slow music" there are still vibrations. and I am worried. Should we only dance to slow music?

I think you are fine to dance to music that is faster than "slow" music. As long as you are holding her head and neck she will be fine when you are dancing with her. Shaken baby syndrome occurs with violent shaking, so a little bit of bouncing from you dancing will be fine. It's no different than if she were in her car seat on a bumpy road. I danced with my son all the time when he was little. Not because he was colicky but because he just thought it was fun. He is fine, and now at 15 months he loves to go around the house shaking his little booty!!

You can dance with her to any music. Shaken baby syndrome involves someone violently shaking the child to the point their head is whipping around...It cannot happen by mistake you would have to have the intent to do it....So Dance away Mommy!
