In the US opening weekend Bond has been beaten by dancing penguins - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/RAB39636.html

Is anyone else amazed by this?

I was in New York a couple of weeks ago and was fascinated by just how much promotion was being done for Casino Royale - it was all over the place! the studio must have spent a fortune.

Then I came back to this side of the pond and again Daniel Craig was all over my telly. Jonathan Ross's fawning interviews (and surprise surprise, glowing review), specials on ITV etc.

The reviews have been almost completely positive over here and in the States.

And yet it's beaten by dancing penguins!!!

I haven't seen it yet (I hope to remedy that this week). Can anyone who HAS seen it explain how and why it's been shunted into second place by a bunch of animated flightless antarctic birRAB?

Maybe because Happy feet is a family film and Casino Royale has a 12A type rating in the USA. Not sure if their equivalent allows under 12's to go even with adults like it does here. Also ist it approaching Thanksgiving weekend? However I am a bit suprised it hasnt debuted at number one. I also cant understand why Santa Clause 3 was released over two weeks ago in the states when it was nowhere near Christmas!

It may be due to the fact that Casino Royale has a longer running time - therefore fewer showings. And I am also led to believe that Happy Feet had an extra 300ish cinemas showing it.

Im also pretty sure that CR will still be showing at cinemas long after Happy Feet has vanished!

In the end, CR will beat Happy Feet easily!

I'm sure kiRAB can go see a 12 rating type film in America with adults if they can go see a 15/18 certificate film with adults too.

But yeah, Casino Royale will keep going over Happy Feet.

Happy Feet on 3,804 made $42,320,000 an average of $11,125 per screen
Casino Royale on 3,434 made $40,600,000 an average of $11,822 per screen

woaaaah, I never noticed that!!!!!! I mean obviously I noticed the one where theyre offering to give away a toy penguin, but it totally didnt click it was connected to the previous advert!!! oo theyre sneaky!!!

Not amazed once I saw the fact that 'Happyfeet' opened at 400 more cinema's in the US than Bond.

That does make it slightly unfair, and actually more surprising that they didn't make more cash, given they had 400 more cinema's to get it off than Bond!:D

The Harry Potter 5 trailer was shown for the first time in front of Happy Feet this weekend in the US. That may not sound relevant if you're not into the whole HP thing, but trust me, this is a hugely known fact in HP world and there have been thousanRAB and thousanRAB across America going to see Happy Feet, purely to see the Harry Potter trailer at the start, which would have contributed a great deal to the viewing figures.

Has anybody even considered that 'Happy Feet' is a great film???? All I have seen so far is rave reviews for it, maybe explain why people are going to see it?
