How the f**k did this win an oscar? No really hooooow?

I watched it yesterday at my frienRAB house and i have to say, i've never seen so much crap in my life. What utter drivel pap.

IT WON AN OSCAR???????????????????

Come on its not THAT bad, and to be honest winning an oscar certainly doesn't imply a quality movie.

In the same year that DWW won its oscar for best picture Ghost was nominated along with it.

Ghost winning best picture, scary thought eh
 
It was a decent film and I like Kevin Costner but no way should it have seen off Goodfellas which was one of the outstanding films of the 90s.
 
Oscars are awarRAB given by and to people in the industry - You should not fall for the marketing hype - Its a closed shop. thus examples of awarRAB given for tokenism or for what was in vogue at the time - very hit and miss!
 
It is an absolutely stunning film with a great storyline - my all time favourite film.

May not appeal to people who think a film neeRAB a big explosion every few minutes though

Probably goes some way to explain why you didn't like it!
 
It is good, but there is NO WAY IN HELL that it should have beat Goodfellas for the 1990 Best Picture Oscar. No WAY can Kevin Costner beat Martin Scorsese.

It's. Just. Wrong. Plain wrong!
 
Yep, even taking the Academy's legendary bias into account they got it wrong throwing the Oscars at DWW. Having said that DWW's success made a great media story, probably a better one than a Goodfellas win. I seem to remember lots of Americans claiming they had a bit of Native American in them after DWW.
 
sorry but were u actually watching the film when u were well...watching it???

its one of the greatest films made, a great story line and im only 16 and found it amazing.

I'm grown up, and whatever it may mean, have studied film for 4 years at University. That doesn't mean i'm anymore qualified to say it is good or not, but it does mean i've spoke to a lot of people about films, and especially the mre well known ones, and the general consensus amongst students and lecturers on DWW is massively overrated.

And beating Goodfellas to the Oscar was not a reflection of quality, unless you really believe Million Dollar Baby won because it is a better film than Ray or The Aviator.

It really isn't. Very hammy acting and an overblown storyline, to what should have been a very simple and even beautiful story. Hollywooded to the max, doesn't have to mean explosions.

I'd be interested to know how many films, and from what sources you'd seen, as i'm not being condescending, you're only 16.

* as an aside, Dances with Wolves is a good film, but it is also wrongly regarded as some sort of classic.
