dance coming up (asking my date?)?

there is this kid who i know had a crush on me, but i get so nervous around him that i keep kind of walking away when he tries to talk to me, and it doesn't help that he is shy towards me too! there is a dance coming up and i kind of want to ask him, because no one else has yet, and he keeps telling his friends that he might not be going (idk why maybe because he hasn't been asked yet? :( ) and i feel like my chances of getting to know him are slipping by. but would it be weird/awkward to go to a dance with someone you don't know very well?
how would you feel if a girl did that?

i would probably go with his group of friends so he would feel more comfortable, because i am on pretty good terms with the people at my school.
 
yeah go for it! it's only awkard if you make it that way. just approach him and be like "heyy whatsup. and lead into oh are you going to the dance?"
and if he says "no" dont back down. just say "ohhh why not, itll be fun, we should go together. but yeah good luck ;]
