Dammit, my car is making a noise

1. I'm not a chevy guy.
2. I'm not a Ford guy.
3. MoPar or NoCar.
4. You can't hear his 305.
5. You don't know what the problem is.
6. While we don't either, we are trying to help.
7. It stiill sounds like the electric fan to me lol. (but that's the video I guess)
8. stay out.

Just as a note to others: This Camaro has an electric fan. No question about it. Not saying that is the problem, just wanted to make that clear it has one.

Although it wouldn't suprise me if that's the noise.

Hell, I am really curious myself.

Well when you learn something about cars maybe you can say it sounds like an eletric fan. Until then you just sound like a ignorant know-it-all.

Until then...''Shut your fucking face, Uncle fucker!!!!"

:lol2: emoticon!

WOW. Ok. I guess you missed my posts.

I have no clue what it is unless it is here for me to look at.

BTW. I'll give you a freebie on this one just so people know what not to say.

Keep it up and you will be farming or gone.

I am going to have to say the starter. If the motor is stuck running, but the solenoid is fine, then the starter should still be able to start the car, as long as the solenoid still can make the starter engage. How about disconnecting the battery, and just pulling the leads off the starter. Then when you hook the bat back up, if you hear nothing, you know something. The only thing I could think might also do that MIGHT be the fuel pump, but you would know that as it should be in the tank.

Are there any mods on the car that you know of? Maby an eletric water pump, or maby a vacume pump?

Don't make me come up there and fix it

Electric water pump or vacuum pump? OK maybe I'm out of the loop, but those are two things I've never heard of. Water pump is always run off the crank, and the vacuum is always created from the suction of the engine's intake.

DirtyBird has already said that he checked the fan, so that rules it out. That is freaking loud for a fuel pump, although if it is almost shot, it could be making a ton of noise; however, it would most likely be coming from the fuel tank at the rear.

The engine is not running, ruling out the alternator.

So, to sum up, in the average car, there are four electric motors which could make such a noise. They are the rad fan, the starter, the heater fan, and the fuel pump.

The rad fan (as I just said) was checked, and wasn't running. The fuel pump is most likely at the rear of the car, isolating it from the rest of the motors, making it fairly simple to figure out. That leaves the heater fan and the starter. Now don't quote me on this, but I think the heater fan is inside the passenger compartment, under the dash. This leaves the starter as the last electric motor which could be quite loud outside of the car. The starter, when running at full speed (which is normally never heard), does sound quite similar to that. The burning smell that accompanied the noise also makes sense, as the starter would be starting to "burn up" from spinning that fast for more than a few seconds.

DirtyBird, see what you can do with this info. Don't make me have said all this for nothing. :D

Wow, didnt realize you guys were still paying attention.

I am 99% sure it's the starter. Some quick poking around yesterday really nailed it down. The other 1 percent is my car being possessed.

That's how my car sounds usually. ;)

And my car doest need a vacuum pump and the water pump is belt drive, I can listen to the fan by turning the key to the "on" position since the fan is wired to be always on. It's working fine as well. And yes, it's an electric fan.

And guys, the sound was loud, it was coming from EVERYWHERE. I'm pretty sure in hindsight that it's the starter and was just reverberating off the ground and around the bottom of the car, made it hard to trace, especially since you cant directly see the starter in the engine bay.

Lots of HVAC stuff in the way not to mention coolant hoses to the heatercore.

The problem is that for some reason, the bendix is disengaging properly, but the solenoid isnt. When I hook the battery back up, everything is normal. Turn the key, the car will crank and the bendix will disengage and the starter motor will squeal like a pig no matter what you do until you yank the fuse or the neg battery cable.

Aftermarket.

Didn't say anywhere if it had many mods done to it, but an eletric water pump is great for drag racing, and a eletric vacume pump is great after you put a loopy cam in. And I was just making a statement.

And did you pull the leads to the starter?

A starter for that car shouldn't be hard to install, let alone cost ~$50.

A starter for $50? I don't know what year that Camaro is, but I just called the local dealer and did a price check on a starter for a mid eighties Camaro. About $175 CDN. And they only go up, the newer they get.

leehype: OK that makes sense about the accessories; as I said I'd never heard of them; however, I am not in the domestic high horsepower scene.

DirtyBird, you may be able to remove the starter, disassemble the solenoid, and replace a couple cheap parts, or simply clean it up, and it may work just fine.

Im just gonna replace it... apparently those parts store assholes are going to charge my $75 WITH the old core...

That car has 185,000 miles on it, and it doesnt burn any oil.

And it shouldnt be too hard, but I'm gonna have to drop the y-pipe to get to it. Not to mention deal with the shims which it may or may not need.

Just $75 isn't much to bitch about, in my opinion! I'm guessing they're giving you about a $25 for the old starter? Maybe not quite.

Are you getting it from a dealer, or general auto parts store?

Your not running duel exaust? You have twin pipes in that vid...

Are you running a Y-I-Y setup, or is it a short h pipe? Just courious...

I hate to nit pick but;all cars burn oil, its just that yours goes through less than a quart a month, but nice:thumbsup:

Damn, hence why I hate going to the dealer, on my truck it was $35 before the core:eek: Well, make and modle might have something to do with it...

Yeah, American muscle have tones of goddies like that
